So, I think I said something about taking it slow on the Tad Williams front, but I am about halfway done with Stone of Farewell already Posted Image

Sounds like you should slow down a tad.

Just finished The Sixth Watch and found it a decent ending but not near the first four of the watch books, its a bit to neat in its tidying up without introducing anything really new.

Going to start up The Three-Body Problem but not sure I'm in the mood for it, might be time to return to something comfy and entertaining.

Started the Gormenghast trilogy a couple of weeks/months ago, but it's slow going. The style is absolutely gorgeous, and I usually don't mind slow stuff, but for some reason I'm not making a lot of headway. I'm still reading the first of the three. Still I've got my eye on that

Finished Stone of Farewell/

This book seemed to do a lot of setup - basically moving everybody to different places

The ending was pretty intense though

I still have no clue what Tiamak is supposed to do.

Gormanghast is beautiful, but yes, it can be a struggle at times. I think I had to set aside the second one for a number of months before I could pick it up again.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Finished "Shadows of self". Since I'm running errands, probably gonna pick up " bands of mourning" while I'm at it.

This one ctually had some (still archetypal) interestingly written characters. Marasi, MeLaan and Aradel are all way better than anything in the Stormlight archive.

I can now dare hope that sanderson'll pull a Tchaikovsky and get good with characters partway thru the series.

A bit into The Library At Mount Char. The vibe I'm getting so far — and that I'm really enjoying — is that it's like if American Gods were written by China Mieville.

that actually would be really awesome.

this review gives me mixed feelings, I loved American gods, but struggled with the 1/4 of a Melville book I read, had to just set it down as I wasn't enjoying it

altough it would have to be tied to user number and not name, to keep track of the serial username changers.

China.
I forget which book it was. Started off with someone getting their groceries via a basket dropped out of a window

Perdido Street Station has Grimnebulin getting stuff he ordered via basket in the early going.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Perdido evolves into something really special, but the first third was a slow burn to me. I think it's due to the sheer amount of set-up that he has to fit into that book to make it work. If you decide to try to go in again Macros, I'd suggest keeping in mind that he's using it to set-up for three books and not just Perdido. Also that Perdido is the weakest of the three.

Oh, and read Mount Char. It really is excellent. I mean look at just how many people here are pushing it, you know it's not that often that this many members agree on the quality of a work.

I finished Bleak Seasons and am pretty happy I stuck with the series through the weaker Shadow Games and Dreams of Steel. The pov of Murgen was especially refreshing to me, and I'll likely jump into She is the Darkness with only a one book break between them.

That one is going to be Calamity by Sanderson. I realized I didn't finish this series yet and it should be a quick and easy one to close out.

Finished Part 2 of "Seveneves". Part 2 was actually pretty good, though the way it ended was predictably messed up.

Just finished SHADOWS OF SELF. All good MISTBORN goodness.ALLOY was perhaps a little more epic, but I enjoyed the characters more and the shouts back to the first trilo were fun.

BANDS OF MOURNING or LIBRARY AT MT CHAR next up for earbook.

The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn: The Most Happy by Eric Ives. Will read almost anything about the period.
