IMHO, the Hyperion Cantos (all four) ranks in the top five sci-fi books of all time next to Gap Cycle, Dune, Culture, and Revelation Space (though Nemesis Game and Poseidon's Wake are shaking up my top five). Anyway, they're great - the Endymion duo not as much but still well worth the read.

Hyperion and Foundation are def in my top 5..i could shuffle them around...depending on when i re-read the last ya know?

Just shy of 100 pages in. It's pretty fast paced, but not so much that you find too much going on. Relatively straightforward; reminds me a little of the Night Angel from Brent Weeks. Story is very nascent so I'll report back when I'm further in.

Just finished up Poseidon's Wake and yes it is pretty top notch, a glorious third installment of a very good science fiction series.

Dalglish is plodding along at a relative pace. It's book One of Six, and I'm about 130 pages in now. I get the feeling that One is going to set up the storyline.

Started into Brian Staveley's 2nd Unhewn Throne book, PROVIDENCE OF FIRE...and it's pretty good so far. I still like Kaden and Adare more than Valyn...but that's okay.

I finished a few books since my last post.

The Autumn Republic by Brian McClellan, the third book in the Powder Mage trilogy. I thought it and the entire series was good, but I'm not sure if I liked it enough to read more of his books.

Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. I heard a lot of good things about this one, especially the 4.8/5 on Amazon. I must say I was underwhelmed. The first third or so was very tedious and mostly about training. I almost gave up. It picked up a bit after this, but by the end I was disappointed. I doubt I will continue with this series.

The Red Knight by Miles Cameron. I guess I'm on a newer author kick. This one I really liked and I think he has the most potential of all the new authors I've read. I'm already into the second book The Fell Sword and am enjoying it so far.

The first time I tried to read this I got stuck early on on the overly detailed descriptions of everything, but I gave it another go a few months down the line and really liked it in the end. Really, really love the world, and the way magic is depicted.



Me, I'm currently blasting through Crashing Heaven by Al Robertson, a just-released cyberpunk debut. Very good work. Recommended for fans of the genre in general, of anyone who likes Hannu Rajianemi's ideas but wishes he'd dial the madness back just a touch, and for anyone who enjoyed Hairlock.



I also started Wolfhound Century by Peter Higgins from a couple of years back. I like the idea of a myth-world based on Soviet Russia. It's not the first book I've read to have taken elements from that regime - it's pretty common in 'New Weird' and its descendants- but it's perhaps the first to actually ingrain the fantasy with the Soviet rather than just setting one within the other.

I'm 14% into Greatcoats 2 myself and really enjoying it (though the editing sucks ass). Bobby Dollar 3 is fucking awesome. Enjoy.
