Finally had some time to finish "Seal of the Worm", the tenth and last voulme in the "Shadows of the Apt" series by Adrian Tchaikovsky

All details in the dedicated thread, but overall I enjoyed it. Good end to the series, and my fears after the end of volume 9 were mostly unfounded.
I'd love to recommend the series, but the characterization in early volumes is simply atrocious. Especially in Volume 2, which is only partially redeemed by very nice battle scenes.
if anyone manages to persevere, the series does get better.

Need to think of what will be my new "at home" reading material now.

Someone recommended Steel World by BV Larson. The font on the book covers tended to throw me off so I stayed away from them, but finally gave in. Right from the beginning it captured me. So much so, I bought the whispersync for it to listen in the car. I liked the audio even better. This isn't profound literature here, and the main character tends to get on my nerves sometimes, but I just like it. It's a fun read. Simple fun. That's it. After I finished I read the next and the next after that, 1-2-3.

If you like space opera I suggest giving it a chance.

Book 4 brings the War to a pretty spectacular conclusion. Books 5-7 explore other parts of the world. Tchaikovsky's characterization improves, battle scenes remain epic.

Book 8 blows you away with its insane aerial action. Books 9-10 are solid, with a slightly different focus, but the conclusion was satisfying, imho.
It's really hard to be more specific w/o some serious spoilers. If you are more specific about what you liked/disliked about the series, i may be able to be more specific about whether I think you'd like where the series went. I realize it's a fairly divisive series, as there are many who strongly dislike it.

I finished reading William's Shadowrise last night. I think book 3 has been my favorite so far. I can't wait to see how the series ends. Starting book 4, Shadowheart, today at lunch.

I know no one else here reads the series (that I know of) but Will Hill's DEPARTMENT 19 series is still one of the finest YA UrbFant series out there. The 4th book ZERO HOUR is more of the same. Breakneck pacing, interesting storyline, and great action. Being the penultimate book in the series I expect this to set up the finale rather nicely.

Finally got around to reading my brother's gift to me from christmas since i've been sick. Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov. Im hooked, im halfway done the trilogy after less than a week. (just started the section on "the mule"). It's a real page turner and i love the concept (though my suspension of disbelief was sorely tested when i read that fragments of the empire could still travel through space but not know how to make a nuclear reactor)

I read these when I was around 14-16. I think Asimovs focus was not so much on the science, as no one will probalby call these hard science fiction, but more on testing out concepts. I enjoyed his Robot books more though.

My Elantris read is on hold, as I got hold of, purely by accident, a rather old book called the Price of Glory, about the battle of Verdun in the First WOrld War. More than halfway through, and the book is pretty well written though I wish the author had done a bit more meticulous research like Beevor or Showalter. But I just love battle-centred military history.

It's a story about Loki interacting with the modern age, almost Urban Fantasy. Kind of interesting

"A Tide of Shadows" by Bielawski
Underwhelming, only read a few chapters, maybe it's a first novel or something

It's taken me just over four and a half months but I finally managed a full continuous read of the Wheel of Time series. I'd read most of them over the years but stopped after Robert Jordan's death. Since I'd forgotten a lot of what had happened I thought it would be best to start from the beginning rather than the books that Brandon Sanderson had worked on. Overall, I loved the series and thought Sanderson did a great job with the last three books.

I'm currently reading some lighter fare with the first book in the Ark Royal trilogy which basically chronicles aliens attacking earth and proving that most of our space warships are crap except for an old nearly mothballed ship with an alcoholic captain. Really good fun

I remember my WoT read. If I can, I always read a series start to finish in one go. It took me about 14 months to power through it.
