I really liked the Fitz books, but everything else of Hobb's I've read, I couldn't get into. Given the relatively similar tone and prose, I've found it difficult to get back to her at all since I discovered Daniel Abraham, who I find much more immediately compelling.

Fitz 1 + fitz 2 can definitely be read without liveship traders, enough information is provided that you won't be incredibly confused, I read liveship traders later and it answered a few questions I had from the fitz books.

The rainwilds books started slow, but the series improves as it goes along with each book better than the previous. If you like hobb definitely read them. I think all the rainwilds books struggle to attract readers more than fitz as its multiple POV and doesn't have a character as immediately relatable as fitz, but they are still very good series.

Soldiers son is incredibly grim, and even though I generally love hobb, I couldn't recommend it.

Can't wait for fitz 7.

Finished Tower Lord and enjoyed it. In for book 3. The Amazon fairy brought me Half A King a day early so I'm gonna start that now.

I loved the Liveship books. You can skip them but why would you? The Soldiers son was very grim and it took awhile to get to the point but I enjoyed it. I can't wait for the new Fitz book! I just got Half a King so I will start on that tonight. I am super excited that Abercrombie will be here on the 29th. Hopefully it won't be as crowded as the Butcher book signing.

Almost done with Stross' RHESUS CHART ... i have to give Charlie credit, the direction he takes vampires is pretty damn clever and original.

Amazon just Kindled me THE CAUSAL ANGEL so that's on deck. Given how hard i loved the second book, am pretty psyched for it.

Nothing going in pure dead tree at the moment but all kinds of good stuff on deck.

In dead tree/pretty colors i finished the HELLBOY and BPRD collections... my comments remain consistent... beautiful stunning art, glorious characters, the stories themselves are brilliant but his reliance on last minute Deus Ex Magica bailouts for his heroes somewhat bugged me by the end. It's totally worth your time and money even so.

In audio, dl'd the entire THRILLING ADVENTURE HOUR: SPARKS NEVADA MARSHALL ON MARS series to date and have been mainlining it about an hour a day... not only is it TAH's best work, but it is really fun to listen to as a serial and frikkin funny, at times hysterical lol-worthy. It's heavy on the comedy but goes to all kinds of great sf places with a degree of self-awareness that totally works. Also the theme music is stuck in my brain so hard it hurts. The TAH podcasts are available, FREE, here.

I make time. Maybe pick a time to read a chapter here and a chapter there. Lunch breaks, after work, before bed etc etc etc

Also some of us have jobs that are ebb and flow in their nature.

Sometimes, I pull 90 hour weeks. Sometimes I pull 25. I also read extremely fast, possibly due to being deaf, and having a book handy for the slow times is a long-term and crucial-for-my-sanity habit.

Personally i have a half hour train commute each way to and from work - so that's an easy hour a day. plus a chapter or two at bedtime.

Yes! I am super excited. I got the new First Law graphic novel I will ask him to sign. I am lucky I live in the L.A. area so a lot of authors stop here on their tours.
As for reading so much... I HAVE to read every day. I always have one Book and one audio book going at all times. I also have some textbooks I read daily. I usually work night shift which is either crazy busy or completely dead so I often have hour a free to read.

I'm currently just over halfway through the fourth Masters of Rome book, Caesar's Women. I thought this one was a bit plodding to start off with (possibly due to giving it less attention cos I was being distracted by Divinity: Original Sin on the pc ) but it's really started to pick up now.
