People tend to exaggerate how much the poses in Long Price replace the dialogue. Sometimes, sure, but far more often he's simply replacing descriptions of standard body language with descriptions of formalised body language. So we get 'he took a pose of questioning' rather than 'he looked at him questioningly' or 'he raised a quizzical brow'.

I haven't read the series yet. But now I'm visualizing entire conversations in the form of interpretive dance!

Well, if it makes you feel better, the other three books (or 1.5 if you're reading the two omnibuses) put less emphasis on the gestures. It doesn't disappear at all of course, but it's better integrated. I personally liked it right away, obviously, so you can take this with a grain of salt, but I do think in the first volume it did come off a bit like Abraham had an idea that he was enthusiastic about and wanted to really make the reader take notice of, but in all following volumes it becomes a lot more natural within the storytelling.

Fantastic that I closed the tab with my answer anyway. I'm 4/5 done with it, and in Winter of Betrayal he has toned it down and now longer feels the need of using multiple stances in every sentence with contain people communicating.

Finished The Atrocity Archives by Charlie Stross and Declare by Tim Powers. Both were a little strange but awesome. It was interesting to see in Stross's afterword that his novel drew a lot of comparisons to Declare, which is why I chose to start there with Powers. I definitely saw some similarities in terms of subject matter (British super secret agency dealing with the occult) but the execution was different, making both enjoyable.

Anyway, back to some traditional fantasy now with Paul S. Kemp's A Discourse in Steel.

Finished up Wicked Bronze Ambition and found it a bit rambling and not what I expect of Cook, still it had some moments worth gold. Even thought including the whole range of Garrets friends was warrented it made the book a LOT longer then it needed to be.

Then Broken Homes came around and was a lot more mundane and less strange/mysterious then earlier novels still a good book not least for the last few chapters and some promising foreshadowing.

Emperor of Thorns next but it will have to wait a few days...

Finished Woken Furies. Enjoyable book, but the weakest of the trilogy. Spent far too much of it with Kovacs yelling at people in fury for having a different opinion to him, even the ones on his side. I like the character but he turned into a bit of a whiny douche in this one. Great series though!

Onto The Quarry now!

The High Lords forgiving Kevin, everything from the moment the Harrow teleported them to the lost deep until they popped back up in the wastes, and Jeremiah's unlocking his mind were all straight up amazing scenes.

I'm going to have a very impatient wait for The Last Dark now.

In the meantime I started Abbadon's Gate last night. Already a third of the way through the book, holy shit, how did that happen!?

Having actually read The Last Dark, I'll highly recommend it (although I may bump into diverse opinions come the actual hour of publication). The best of the Last Chronicles. Not going to post spoilers on a public site, though!
