Finished Blood and Bone last week, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Finished Poseidon's Arrow by Clive Cussler last Monday, I'd say it was a solid Dirk Pit novel.

Started a Game of Thrones yesterday.

Currently reading _Advent_, which was one of Amazon's top 10 SFF recommendations this year. Reminds me a great deal of Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising sequence, though there's less of a YA tone to it. Well-structured, occasionally lovely prose, and and effectively eerie atmosphere sustained throughout. A cautious recommendation -- those who liked _Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell_ may well enjoy it.

Having finished AMOL (deets on main thread), and read about 100 pages of KRAMPUS by Brom before giving it up finding it flat and not what I thought it would be.

Currently on the first Chapter of John Scalzi's new Old Man's War book (which he is releasing seriazled from week to week for $0.99/chapter...which will eventually cost you as much as the hardcover will in total. THE HUMAN DIVISION....and so far it's classic OMW Universe stuff, and very good!

I'm also restarting Dan Simmons THE TERROR.

I'm almost done with King's Gerald's Game. In spite of the slow, jarring start (that was mostly just getting used to the structure and narrative voice of the character), the novel now holds the top spot in "Wanting to throw the fucking book against a wall and never look back because OMGWTF it's so disturbing." Previously, that honour would've gone to Scott Sigler and his chicken scissors (in Infected), but holy ^*%$&^$&^$, that "degloving"-scene!

Just thinking about it makes me shiver. Well played, Mr. King.

Just finished AMOL, its not at near so stunning as the cripple god but its conclude the series in a ok way without to much fuzz. No point dwelling over a era is ended, over to Dead Beat and more Dresdencrack.

Yeah, those were my feelings on AMOL as well. I quite enjoyed it, but as to the ending of a series and being REALLY affecting....TCG has it beat in spades. It had some great moments, some really sad ones, some heroic ones...but overall it kind of just knits up the series rather than go for being a truly stellar finale.

I'm about 50 pages into Dan Simmons THE TERROR and finding it to be REALLY good. This is my first Simmons book, and I find I love his writing!

I'm done with Gerald's Game. For a King-ending, this was quite good, I enjoyed the wrap-up. I still refuse to think about degloving.

On to Reynolds' Galactic North, to finish of the Revelation Space-read I started about a year ago. I've already read the first two stories, "Great Wall of Mars" and "Glacial," so that leaves six, if I'm correct. Based on previous experience with Reynolds' work, I expect my mind to melt regularly, maybe an exciting action scene or two, and a few scenes of gross-out. Can't wait!

Agreed regarding AMOL. Very good, but not as great als TCG. It was satisfying, had some great moments, but it didn't affect me as much as other books. I didn't even had a book hangover after finishing AMOL (something I expected)!

Anyway, just started THE BLOOD GOSPEL by Rollins & Cantrell. Really, really liking it so far. Commando priests, vampires, archaeologists....

Since you liked Gemmell's Troy series, if you continue to enjoy Simmons, I would totally recommend his ILIUM and OLYMPUS. It's a retelling of the Trojan War, on Mars, with a lot of other stuff going on. Also the obligatory HYPERION recommendation. Great sci-fi.

Speaking of Gemmell, I really enjoyed his Troy trilogy. The Iliad is a favorite of mine, so I liked how believable the series was. Considering that Homer was believed to have written long after the Trojan War, some things had to be embellished for story telling purposes and such. I really liked Gemmell's explanations about certain parts of the war, like the infamous Trojan Horse, and his world building in general.

Now onto Bernard Cornwell's HERETIC, having finished the other two books last year.

A re-read of Olympos should give you a bit more satisfaction, but the ending is still shit.

The Terror is the one Simmons book I've read that was great from beginning to end. It's a slow burn psychological/spiritual horror book and done well.

To me, the Hyperion books end awfully and are inconsistent - even if emotionally touching in some spots.

Got Julian May's Saga of the Pliocene Exiles on Kindle, and am about halfway through the final book. Great fun, even after all these years. And really looking forward to the re-release of the Galactic Milieu trilogy later on this year.

I just finished it. THE BLOOD GOSPEL felt a lot like Rollins' Sigma Force novels, it is that Cantrell's name is on the cover, otherwise I would have thought it was a Rollins book (which is a good thing btw, meaning that both authors write very well together). Same breakneck pace, lots of (some of it made-up, but that didn't bother me) history, action and bad guys. Nothing complicated, nothing groundbreaking new, just good escapist reading. I enjoyed it a lot, would say on par with his better Sigma novels. As it is the first in a series, I'm very looking forward to the second installment!! I mean, what is not to like about giant monsters, commando priests and vampires?

Btw, june 25th -> new Sigma Force novel: THE EYE OF GOD.

Just wrapped up the two first books in the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. I thought they were great despite some short periods there the plot dragged on, so I don't really get the bad reviews I found when I did a quick search on this forum. Currently reading "The Dragon's Path" by Daniel Abraham. I haven't read the Long Price Quartet since I only found out about it after I had gotten started on this one. If you've read both, how do they compare? Equally good, one better than the other or what? Point in favor of the Long Price Quartet is that it's a finished series I suppose - I'm following too many series at the moment and having to wait around for the next fix is such a bother hehe.

Looking for a suggestion though, since these ones are rather short and easily devoured. Should I read the Prince of Thornes / King of Thornes, Perdido Street Station or the aforementioned Long Price Quartet next?
