I enjoyed it too. It seems most don't like this series, just me, you and Abyss. It feels like Malazan light to me. This has prompted me to bump up book 2 on my TBR pile.

I like it too, but the CHRONICLES books are REALLY hard to get a hold of these days....NOONSHADE is out of print in the version I have of DAWNTHIEF. Every place I seek has the LEGENDS books, but NOONSHADE is apparently persona non-Grata to book stores. I need to order it.

Yeah, I think I got my copy brand new for about a dollar at half.com. That's one thing I've noticed about books published by Pyr. Even though the TPBs are a bit pricey, you can often find them dirt cheap second hand.

What with putting the Magnus Flyte book down for atrociousness...I needed something to tide me over till Tuesday...so in the interrum I'm reading Sanderson's new Elantris novella THE EMPEROR'S SOUL (which is excellent, if short), and MIGHT have time to read Ellis' GUN MACHINE beforehand as well. we'll see how my weekend reading goes.

I know you probably already now this and you probably want physical copies, but there are Kindle versions. Also brought it up for others who might want to try it out and might be discouraged by not getting a physical copy. And I officially added you to the Raven club, 4 strong now.

I think we're all in relatively the same boat with regards to AMOL...this isn't just any book, it's the last book in a 14-book fantasy series that began more than 20 years ago. In that respect, it's going to fuck with ALL our reading schedules as we stop whatever it is we are reading when we get it and dive right in.

I would still be here, frozen, trying to decide which one to do first. Then my head would have exploded. Or I'd have been taken away by some very nice people for my own good. Or I'd have featured in the news in one of stories that inevitably ends, "...before turning the gun on himself."

I jumped ship after/during Path of Daggers and I planned to do the same as you. But I got into audiobooks (free at my library) and decided to re-immerse myself into the series. I read the wiki summaries up to Gathering Storm, listened to it and Towers of Midnight and will have Memory of Light on my audible app as soon as it releases. Really, really looking forward to it.

I would take AMOL over cold days any day. AMOL is the conclusion of the some of the first fantasybooks I've read, I remember the day my father gave me The dragon Reborn. He had no idea that is was a series and I was maybe 10-11 years old. He still laughs of the memory of me standing on one foot, the sock and the leg guard halfway off (just came home from soccer practices) while reading. That gift has really cost me a lot of money, and most of all, time. It's a bit sad that is all over, and it better be brilliant.

Finished up Sanderson's THE EMPEROR'S SOUL, and really enjoyed it. Short, but sweet with a lovely ending. Great stuff from a master.

Now, onto GUN MACHINE...which my best friend already tells me is AMAZING. It's Ellis, so I know I'm in for a ride.

No map. But it doesn't matter as it doesn't take place anywhere near the places of the events of ELANTRIS, nor does it concern any of the people in ELANTRIS...it's on the same planet on a far off continent (an Asian cultured one if I'm not mistaken), and though the magic is not the same as Raoden used, you can see that it's based off the same physics. I don't know when it takes place, but the nobility are referred to as "Grands"...which I only assume means they are of the same stock as the nobility in ELANTRIS...just in a different country.

So I only flicked open GUN MACHINE for a peek to read a chapter or two...an hour and a half later and I'm over 120 pages in.

1. I'm fucking glued to the pages.
2. The story is fascinating, and utterly bizarre but in a factual way.
3. Warren Ellis writes like some sort of whisky-fueled, chain-smoking, internet god who knows how people talk and think...and still finds ways to be gorgeously descriptive. ("The cream ale was the color of maple syrup topped with an inch's fall of apple blossom."...."she'll come in the next day looking like she's been dipped in Crystal Meth and tossed to a Canadian Hockey Team")

Abyss...get on it. This book is GOLD!

I've read the first two books of the Dresden Files. Not too bad, but not overly good so far. I like it how its simple and from one point of view although some things aren't really explained in depth, like how this magic is present or anything really. All i know is that a wizard needs to concentrate to cast magic, and there was nothing that said what happens when you hold a staff or a rod... whats then benefit? Seems like anyone can use magic also. Probably explained later or maybe its not important to the plot at all. I'm going to keep on going with the third, see what happens.

I'm really excited for AMOL. I did not wait for the countless books like some of you for the past 300 years but lm looking foreward to it. I enjoyed Sanderson's versions very much. ToM Spoiler?

Although I was REALLY disappointing in the rescue of Morrain and the whole Mat vs them slimy fox dudes. Could have been so much more
