Rereading my all-time favorite book, Richard Adams' Shardik, for the eleventh time. Love this book so much.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

Received Cold Days for Christmas this year, but only had time to read it this evening because I was with family on Christmas and I was out/watching the cricket for most of Boxing Day.

It's now 4 a.m.

The crack, it's just so good!

I finished up A Memory of Light by Jordan and Sanderson last week. I've got review written, a spoiler discussion written and an interview with Sanderson in the works. But those won't go live until Jan. 8th. I'm currently finishing up The Half-Made World by Felix Gilman which is turning out great - why did I wait so long to read it.

I recently got reviews posted for Of Blood and Honey by Stina Leicht and Zoo City by Lauren Beukes. Both are good, but Of Blood and Honey is one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Just finished Wind Through the Keyhole. Personally, I gave it three stars - Average. I didn't dislike it. I don't regret having read it. I just didn't think it was extraordinary or anything. Par. Next up.....either finishing Faith, Minority Council or starting Ship of Fools, Appleseed, or Star Wars: Heir to Empire (I've never read any Star Wars books).

Edit: Until A Memory of Light comes in and then everything is on hold, eating and breathing possibly included. Oh, and Colonel, could you rub our faces in it a little more? Nah, glad you liked it, fucker.

Three out of three stars is pretty good IMO.

I could rub in a little more - with a secret spice recipe of sa'angreal, deaths, forsaken and the Horn of Valere.

Well.......you know what....... I don't even want to read it! There. I'll just re-read Confessor again. Take that!

The Shadow Rising. I've made good progress through the series so far, reading the first three books in 9 or 10 days, but then I look at my bookshelf and realize that I have another 10 books to read until I get to A Memory of Light. And that's not even counting New Spring, and I have no idea where I'm going to fit that one in. Maybe after Crossroads of Twilight, since it was published right after that.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

Hmm, alright. In that case, I think I'll read it after The Fires of Heaven; I currently own every book in hardcover besides 6-8, and hopefully by the time I finish New Spring I'll at least have Lord of Chaos in hardcover as well (the older I get, the more and more I hate mass market paperbacks).

Picked up an anthology edited by John Joseph Adams called Epic and just started with the first story called Homecoming by Robin Hobb, whom I've never read before. Hopefully reading some short fiction will reignite my reading of longer fiction as class, work, and obsessively playing Skyrim have really put a dent in my reading time... I still haven't finished FoD.

Connor: [as the brothers exit the church] I do believe the monsignor's finally got the point.

Hey, me too! Yay for Christmas books.
Also been working on Glen Cook's Garrett PI series. I'll resume that after Blood and Bone unless AMoL is already out.
