I've hit the halfway mark in Ian Tregillis THE COLDEST WAR (sequel to BITTER SEEDS) and I shit you not, this is the read of the year. Like easily. Call the press. This is it. I can't put the damned thing down and as badass as I thought the first book was (and the little short story included with the paperback edition), this one is proving to be even better and more insane. I simply can't say enough good things about it.

Abyss and SaltMan, you both need to be reading this series. Go out and get BITTER SEEDS, it's in paperback. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

I've already got the 3rd book pre-ordered in hardcover for next April...I'm going to devour that shit.

Seriously, you won't be disappointed.

Imagine the WWII, the X-Men, and Cthulhu mixed into one narrative and you'll be in the ballpark of the awesome.

Ha. I at least have the discipline to wait until it pops up at the used bookstore. (He says, still kicking himself for not picking up Bitter Seeds for $2 earlier this year.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Started A Red Country finally last night.
Long trip down to reading today should get a good chunk of it polished off.

Not feeling like starting up a new book in my TRP, I decided to dive into yet another reread of Book of the New Sun. It'll be a good week :The Force:

This ^. Dammit but my amazon wishlist is getting busy, primarily due to this thread!

Just finished Red, White and Blood. Good, but not as good as the previous two imo, just a bit too.. predictable?

Now into 'Red Country'. Just love Abercrombies style, and the mix of violence and humour.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Currently reading Bitter Seeds and its a damn compelling book. Not all that action packed but its not every day ww2 gets even grimmer then it was yet resonably realistic (even if the author has taken some historic liberties besides the magic/superscience).

Been appearing a lot on the forum recently, its very good if you like completly amoral or perhaps even outright evil protagonists, not for those who object to truly unlikable maincharacters however, the second one is even better.

The main character is quite likable - it's just that he is utterly ruthless and often murderous. Think Dexter, except with a royal politics/revenge arc.

Best Served Cold is fantastic so far. Maybe it will start to suck later based on some of the impressions I've seen, but I'm a third of the way through and it's easily the best one so far. The character interactions are better than ever. I just got introduced to Schenkt--possibly the most badass introduction I've ever read.

I can see how the plot structure is similar to a video game and people might not like that. But I'm enjoying the ride so far.

Finished FoD. Man, S.E. does cast a big net to start things off.

I moved on to The Strain by del Toro and Hogan. It reads really easy.

Just finished it and totally enjoyed.
More subversive fun fantasy rather than the 'first part of a dark epic' it tries to be, but totally worth the ready time.

It remains my single fave Abercrombie work.

Easy enough. It's brain/off horror, but not bad. I wasn't blown away by the sequel The Fall but it's more of the same.

CRACK'D POT TRAIL isn't dissappointing tho it does require a bit more thinkymeatzwork than i was expecting.

Finished THE COLDEST WAR by Tregillis...

Easily my favourite book this year. Easily. I put it down after the last page and actually said aloud "Wow"...and then I grabbed my copy of BITTER SEEDS and trawled through it for stuff.

I can honestly say that this book series is one of the finest I have ever read.

Now to await the 3rd and final book NECESSARY EVIL (April 2013)

Since the Disney buys Lucasfilm news I had a hankering for STAR WARS EU and since nothing new comes out till mid-December I'm re-reading Troy Denning's NJO book STAR BY STAR and might chase it with Elaine Cunningham's DARK JOURNEY since those are the two best books in the entire NJO.

Yepp the book was certainly brilliant I just picked it up after Bitter Seed and read until it was done. How the hell he will handle the next book will be interesting since it so far seems to be a loop...guess I'll have to go back to Bitter Seed and re-read those incidents which might give some clues and adding a book to the top of the buy when available list is always good :p.
