Just finished Bujold's Young Miles, which is the omnibus starting the Vorkosigan series. I'd never heard of it aside from knowing that there was a Mafia game set in the universe. It was rather good, just the right mix of military sci-fi and space opera. I'll definitely be picking up the next books.

With that done, I'm moving onto more sci-fi with Banks' The Hydrogen Sonata.

Nope- it's next to impossible to get hold of in paper-book form, but I recently got an e-reader so yay me.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I found mine for $2 at a used book store and I've seen more since. But that's in the U.S. and I have no idea how it bodes elsewhere. Anyway, that book, though I loved it, made me madder than probably any other book I've read, Deadhouse Gates being the runner up. Luckily, I have a heavy bag that I beat the shit out of in situations like that.

Finally finished Forge of Darkness. Just as good as expected but *ahem* Dark. Go figure.

Sadly, the reading pace has been set at "Snail" all of october so far so I'm a bit behind of where I want to be. Should still be able to meet my goals. Coming up in the next two weeks or so are:
Absolute Sandman Vol 3
Sourcery
Changes (Reread)
Ghost Story (reread)

I figure if I can keep to my hundred pages a day (after likely chewing through all of Sandman tonight...) I should finish Ghost Story a month before Cold Days releases.

Just started Den Of Thieves by David Chandler. Brent Weeks, Peter Brett, and now this guy. Yet another "outlaw protagonist" novel that I'm thoroughly enjoying right off the bat. I have to say I'm very impressed with the current crop of thief/assassin/demon-killer lone protagonist type fantasy stories. I hope it's a lasting genre and not a passing fad.

Have you read Among Thieves? I enjoyed it. It's like Dresden Files set in an Arabic fantasy world, and the main character is a bit more of a scumbag.

Listening to The Gathering Storm and goddamnit
Spoiler
It just happened at the end of my workout so I don't know how it plays out in the next little bit but anyway, that's how I feel about it.

Called it.

I listened to this for six hours while fishing today. I'm loving it thus far and I think Sanderson's doing a great job with it, though is humor can be a bit juvenile. Also, the action seems to have really picked up. I haven't read any Wheel of Time for a near a decade so it's nice getting back into it. And, yes, I cheated and just read the cliff notes(summaries) for the last three books.

Ah man, books 9 and 11 both have some really good parts. And yeah that moment in TGS is one of the best in the series IMO.

I know, I feel bad for skipping them but I didn't care much for A Crown of Swords and then The Path of Daggers was meh. I bought Winter's Heart and skimmed it in a couple of days and swore off the series until it was completed. I really want to read A Memory of Light in January and since I'm now an audiobook junkie, I decided to listen to The Gathering Storm and The Towers of Midnight in preparation for the finale. Now I'm so immersed in the stories I'm actively doing chores and running errands for the wife so I can listen to them.

Audiobooks fucking rule!

Well, good audiobooks rule, at least.

Also 50 pgs in to Whitechapel Gods and I'm really enjoying it; very unique world and ideas. Little pissed that I see some of my "original" ideas up in smoke, yet again, but hell, it's par for the course. Also, just started The Dragon Never Sleeps by Glen Cook. Not far enough in yet to judge but I'm a huge fan of his so I can't imagine me not liking it.

This is a bit outside the normal reading habits of most people here, but Robert Greene's new book, Mastery, is pretty dang worth it. Hits stores Nov. 13th.

I'm familiar with his stuff and own 33 Strategies of War (great book) and this one is on par with 48 Laws of Power, but far, far less overtly focused on winning interpersonal politics battles. This one is much more focused on what separates people who master a certain pursuit from others - overcoming fear/boredom to find your life's calling, apprenticing yourself to someone and knowing when to step out of that relationship, seeing things for what they really are (winning interpersonal politics battles), waking up your creative juice machine, getting full mastery by meshing your intuitive feelings with rationally gained skills.

It also introduced me to people like Temple Grandin and Teresita Fernandez, Ignaz Schemmelweiss and others who serve as great examples or cautionary tales. Very good book.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Picked up book 5 of Dresden Files, Death Masks, last night. Although I really didn't have much time to spend reading, I ended up reading half of it fairly quickly, as I was unable to put it down. It's really good, so far. The best one in the series for me.

I finished The Name of the Wind by Rothfuss, but I have to admit I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, it's a good book, and it has great, heart-wrenching character development, but I found it lacking in action, and proper antagonists.

Just finished the first part/book of Toll the Hounds and man this book is kick ass so far. Really long though... I wish I had more time to rip through it.

Favourite part so far - the few malazans in darujhistan who accidentally meet up with the crew of 3 who recently came over from seven cities at a cafe type place... one of whom is a relative of Kalam... hilarious scene.
