I was taking an internet survey earlier today. It asked me to estimate how many books I've read so far this year. It would not accept my answer, because it was too large.
I broke the survey!
My name is KSC, and I am a bookaholic...
Anyway... Finished The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. Crazy crazy good. Anything written by this guy will hereafter be placed immediately in my wishlist. Also finished and enjoyed Lamentation by Ken Scholes. Started The Strain. Too early to tell how good it is, but it's from the warped mind of Guillermo Del Toro, so how could it be bad?

In a bit of a book hangover/slump and even Brent Week's THE BLINDING KNIFE wasn't helping. I tried out Connie Willis' BLACKOUT, but as much as ?I enjoyed TO SAY NOTHING OF THE DOG, BLACKOUT wasn't hitting it for me either. I don't know what to read next...

Have you read that one with the King and the Thorns yet?
If you have, you should totally read Nick Harkaway's Gone-Away World (I feel certain I've said that to you before. Given how much I recommend it, chances are good...). That'll break any slump in the world.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Thanks PG, yeah KING was one of the ones I could not get into during my slump...not that it wasn't good, but my slump is heavy this time.

Just read TAKEN by Benedict Jacka, the 3rd book in the Alex Verus series. Very enjoyable stuff, particularly if you enjoyed the first few at all (which I did).
Some aspects of the stories are really interesting (especially Luna's curse), and I enjoy how Verus goes about solving his problems, but it doesn't quite have the depth of a series like the Dresden files for me. Maybe this will improve in the series as it expands, but when it comes to the peripheral elements or more importantly species, there isn't the same feeling of well fleshed out characters.
This is my opinion obviously, maybe others will disagree. Curious to see what others think. Will definitely read the next book though. Nice easy, enjoyable reads.

Finished The Silver Spike by Glen Cook thus concluding the Black Company series for me. It was very good, the book and the series.

Why did you read that one last? Not doing the omnibus versions? Just curious.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

So I finished Shadow of the Wind, and it was amazing. One of my favourite reads this year I think.

Summer Knight is done and I've moved onto Death Masks. Bring on the Denarians, baby!

With everything slumping me bookwise I decided to finally go back and finish Benedict Jacka's FATED for the want of something shortish.
Passed where I had previously stopped (page 50) this morning and it actually made me nearly miss my subway stop...so that's probably a good sign. I'm still probably going to like Butcher better, but it gets better than it was to start off....

Finished Ghost Ocean over the weekend, and loved it, even if I didn't always understand what was going on all the time. There's just a "feel" to S. M. Peters' stuff that I absolutely love. Dude needs to get a third book published, stat.
Started in on Courtney Schafer's The Tainted City, which is good so far.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I spotted The Lies of Locke Lamorra in my uni's library today and held a squeal. It was too late to pick it up today, but I'm definitely getting it tomorrow.
Otherwise I picked up The Big and the Little Prince by a local author, it's cute and relaxing.

Prepare yourself for a totally stellar book...and then a sort of decent, but still paling in comparison sequel...and then you can stand with us in line as we await the VERY overdue 3rd book.

Well, I had read varying opinions on when to read The Silver Spike and decided to read it last since it veered off from the main plot line. I think it doesn't matter if you read it after The White Rose or at the very end.
I thought the first half of The Silver Spike was the best part of the entire Black Company series. The second half was very good, but not as good as the first half.
I own physical copies of the first and second Black Company omnibuses, then I made the switch to eBooks. Unfortunately the only Black Company eBook available is Soldier's Live, which I own. The eBook situation had nothing to do with my reading order.

Real life is keeping me from reading more, but I'm about 100 pages into FoD. So far so good, now I just need to find a quiet place with no disturbances so I can finish it.

The Chronicles of The Black Company is available to download on Amazon. It comprises The Black Company, Shadows Linger and The White Rose. I have it. A number of typos but not enough to get in a twist about

Started Victor Hugo's _Les Miserables_ on Kindle yesterday. Starting slowly, but interesting nonetheless.

Maybe it's country specific, in the US no Kindle version exists, I just checked.
