Jeepers crap, good as it is, Game of Thrones is just one major downer after another, isn't it?
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

You ain't seen nothing yet.

This series makes ANGELA'S ASHES look like a heartwarming Disney movie.

Hahahahaha, yeaaaaah. I recently loaned Game of Thrones and Clash of Kings to my brother and I warned him that it ain't sunshine and lollipops. I'm waiting to see what he thinks of those two before tossing book 3 at him.

^ It gets worse with every book doesn't it? I strongly suggest not getting emotionally attached to any of the characters from ASoIaF, they all tend to disappear shortly after.

I wrapped up Midnight Tides. It really kept me on edge, Erikson's writing just keeps getting better. And so many great new characters, how he keeps them all unique is beyond me.
I think I'm going to pause for a few weeks in order to read The Cold Commands or re-read The Clash of Kings.

Finished The Book of Taltos. These really are good fun. Think it's time for an old friend though. Onto the Hitchhiker's Guide.

Well, it's slow reading for me these days and even slower reviewing. I got my review up for Forge of Darkness by Erikson - it is excellent. I followed up the review with a bit of rant about some the fan reaction to it. I still owe reviews for Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear and Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch (both are good). And I'm currently reading and really enjoying Dancing With Bears by Michael Swanwick.

been reading a lot of Russian lit recently.

Just finished Lukyanenko's "New Watch"--great stuff, as always.

Also read the 4 books in Perumov's " Seven Beasts of Rajleg" series. It's good, but not as awesome as the Swords stuff.

There have also been 2 new Enclaves book out by Vadim Panov. I'll prolly re-read the first 3, then juump right into them...

Reading The Cold Commands and Metro 2034. Damn, I couldn't have picked the two worse books to read simultaneously! They're both major downers, so much bitterness almost makes me want to strangle myself with my own intestines.

Finished:

Deep Sky - brilliant end to the trilogy, I thought, and thanks to those who recommended it

The Island of Doctor Moreau - superb, they don't write 'em like this anymore

The Wurms of Blearmouth - after my mild disappointment with FoD I found this a welcome blast of SE goodness

Now reading Riders of the Purple Sage.

I've got two books half finished that I need to get back to (A SONG FOR ARBONNE by GGK and THE WEE FREE MEN by Pratchett), but I've not been in a book reading mood for a few days....so I've been immersing myself in comics...re-read Palmiotti and Conner's POWER GIRL run.

Then I read 2000AD's Judge Dredd spin off series, Hondo City collection which has about 8 REALLY great tales.

And I'm currently reading Scott Snyder and Yannick Paquette's run on SWAMP THING (which is excellent)

...and after I finish that I'll be getting back into the two titles above that I stopped halfway through and polish them off...

...and then I've saved Mark Lawrence's KING OF THORNS for my Film Festival week to read int he line-ups...as a treat. Can't wait!

Little over halfway through A Game of Thrones and Ned Stark (who I love dearly) is a stupid stupid man.

Started reading Star Wars: Survivor's Quest (yes, I'm 8 years behind in my Star Wars reading...THERE'S TOO MANY BOOKS!!!). I was immediately reminded of the fact that Timothy Zahn is my favorite Star Wars author. Although, oddly, I've never read any of his non-SW stuff. Just have never been into hard/military sci-fi...
