Currently reading 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson - which would appear to be set in the same universe as his Mars Series. It's fun so far, despite one of the main characters being a bit of a pompous, whiny, self-indulgent idiot; one would assume she'll get better. It's a bit more breezy in tone and not as portentous and self-consciously important as the Mars books.

Reading King of Thorns, the second book by Mark Lawrence and so far, it is as good as the first one!

First time I really registered what page I was on was page 61, it's that much of a page turner!

Finished Forge of Darkness, which I was a little disappointed with - thought it was a tad slow, lacked a bit of humour, and felt overlong as a result, plus there were several characters I really didn't warm to. Probably didn't help that I read it during the Olympics, and so was constantly distracted . . . I stand ready to change that opinion if I re-read it. I think that says a lot about it, actually - with SE it's usually a case of 'when', not 'if'.

Then I read Ian Rankin's The Impossible Dead. The second in his series about Malcolm Fox, so possibly not the best place to start, but it was in the buy-1-get-1-half-price deal in Smiths, so . . . Anyway, I enjoyed it muchly and shall definitely seek out more Rankin in the future.

Now I'm nearly at the end of Joe Abercrombie's The Heroes, which was the other book I got in the Smiths deal. It rocks. It's easily the best book of his that I've read to date and, for me, a definite step up from the First Law Trilogy, which I was underwhelmed with.

I finished reading Orullian's "The Unremembered" and since I posted about it in the Books NOT to Read thread, I won't say any more about it here.

Now I've returned to Glen Cook's "An Empire unacquainted with defeat", which - as with all of Cook's stuff - is awesome.

Back from vacation. Early in, I finished F. Paul Wilson's The Keep, which was great; it basically boils down to "Nazis versus Vampires", but as awesome as that sounds, it's still much more than that. Not sure how it ties in to The Tomb; guess I'll have to read the rest of the Adversary Cycle to find out.

Also, I finally started in on A Game of Thrones, which, 100 pages in, is awesome. Funny story: while packing for our trip, I asked my wife if she was bringing a book, and she said, "I should try that Game of Thrones book everyone's talking about, do we have that one?" and my response was, "I'm already bringing that as my second book!" Also, since we both want to read it at the same time, I figured I'd check out a second copy from the library; ha! Between the two county library systems I use, they've got a little over 100 copies, and close to 200 hold requests for those copies. Not bad for a 16-year old book!

I read the first one back in 2001. I decided to stop until he was mostly finished because the wait and ache of new Wheel of Time books made me realize that I wanted a completed (or nearly completed) series. I'm now listening to A Clash of Kings because my brother has now read them and he can't quit spoiling stuff for me. I didn't start MBotF until a year before The Crippled God came out. I've held off on reading The Judging Eye. I probably won't read Blue Remembered Earth until the next one's out. Jordan with his cliffhangers ruined me, though I did fall for Name of the Wind, Gentlemen Bastards, Dagger and Coin, and Stormlight Archives.

I've been slowly acquiring the books used. I finally picked up AFFC in 2009, but decided I'd hold off starting them until ADWD came out. Now's the perfect time to start, since the MMPB of ADWD will be out at the end of the month.

WAIT, WHAT? I just checked Amazon, and looks like the MMPB's been pushed back to March 2013? Bah.

Usually, yes. That would probably be the best solution for you and your lady to prevent tug of war disputes.

Usually you get the book for 3 weeks (at least in TN) but if you....cough....accidentally turn off your wifi you can keep it for as long as you want.....cough.

Reading Jacka's _Cursed_, and enjoying it about as much as I did _Fated_. Alex Verus just isn't as interesting a protagonist as Dresden, at least for me.

Also: got a Kindle, and started reading Austen's _Emma_. Will probably get the Bourne trilogy books and ASOIAF for the Kindle.

I have the same problem with Alex Verus. He's cool, and the books are decent...but he simply can't touch Dresden's style. And I actually find Luna more interesting.
