Ugh. Read 3 more chapters of Kristen Britain's GREEN RIDER.

It is the Mary Sue-est of characters, in probably the most blatant LORD Of THE RINGS copycat I've seen since the first Shannara book.

It's not bad...it's just boring, typical, and nothing bad happens to any main character....and the bad guys are "Rubs hands evilly, while doing and saying evil things" type folk.

This one will go unfinished. I'm going to have to check out the TBR pile at home tonight for what's next.

Finished Shaman's Crossing by Hobb, thoroughly enjoyed it and yet have no idea where it's gonna go next (which I like). Now I'm reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Just a little way in so far, but I heard it's a heavy one.

The first Farseer trilogy had an amazing, totally mind-bending, fully unexpected ending; the Liveship Traders ending mastered "convergence" while Steven Erikson was still in diapers (unless I have my timeline confused); and the Tawny man trilogy wasn't quite as complex overall but its finale was one of the best parts. In other words, suck an egg.

But to more directly answer your question, this was just the first book in a trilogy so I couldn't tell you how the finale plays out. I'm alternating it with non-series books just for diversity's sake, but when I get to the ending (which won't be for a month or two though) I'll probably post in here about it.

just started The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie, though it wasn't by choice, i was sort of forced to it, because i have yet to unpack and put cover/jacket to my other books and this already has one,
hmm, not much to say for now, but I find Glokta conflicting, you feel his pain, but at the same time in his bitterness, he wants to torture others,
I have yet to like Logen, his story hasn't pick up yet, but I could get to like him,

also, I've been reading a few chapters of Memories of Ice, to keep up with my Malazan re-read,
I find it strange that I could be happy and content and surprisingly satisfied with just reading a few chapters of it than with a whole book of other authors, like my previous read, tWMF,
I'm only just at the chapter where Paran met Silverfox, and boy the revelations and the emotions these two brought to the book was really good,:p
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

I agree. I loved the 6 Farseer bks I read. My fav was bk 2 in the 1st 3. Fantastic. I'd love to hear about more Fitz bks coming out.

I loved them too, but I think Fitz's story is properly done now.

So, Long and Thanks For All the Fish is the next in line. I want to finish the Hitchhiker saga before focusing my attention on Metro.

Started Benedict Jacka's FATED...and so far...VERY good. Very Dresden-ish and the nod to the Chicago Wizard is lovely and subtle. So far, so good. I'll weigh in when I am done.

I've never heard of that. It takes place in Dresdens world?

Not really, but the main character is a British mage who says that he knows of a mage in Chicago who advertises under Wizard in the phone book...a clear Dresden reference...plus there is a council of mages.

It's nice to imagine it's the same world on the other side of the pond...but for all intents and purposes it's probably a different book universe.

3rd reading of Toll the Hounds.
I swear, this book gets better with every reread. I was like a lot of people on the first read, thought it was good not great. But it's just flat friggin fantastic.
A suggestion to those who weren't thrilled with TTH the first time. Read it again!
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Hmmm, a bit a changing of my initial opinion of Jacka's Alex Verus book...I'm halfway through and it never really reaches the heights of Dresden TBH. I like Alex Verus, but he's not totally realized...the comments that the periphery characters are more interesting is valid at this point.

It's good, not great....and yeah so far it can't touch Dresden...

Finished Revelation Space today. I liked it. Took me longer to chew through it than I would have liked. I also finished the first Absolute Sandman. I really cannot tell you how much I love this series. Way too damn much talent involved.

Starting on the second Absolute Sandman, and also starting Twelve by Jasper Kent. That one caught my eye awhile back and I've been curious ever since.

ABSOLUTE SANDMAN #2 has my all time fave standalone SANDMAN story in it "THREE SEPTEMBERS & A JANUARY". Enjoy that one!

The fifth and (I think) final book in Conn Iggulden's Mongol series.
I love these books so much its ridiculous.
I know a lot of people don't like historical fiction but I have always enjoyed it, and think Conn is a fairly decent writer, with solid characterisation and a very easy to read style.
Definitely though, his Mongol books are better than the Emperor series, but I thoroughly enjoyed them too, and can't wait for the Octavian book to come out and wrap that set up as well.

Just finished the second book in the series and fully agree with Mat's sentiment.

I've just started SE's new tome, and am enjoying it so far. Seems to be a move back towards the style of his earlier malazan books, which will please quite a few I imagine.

^^Thirded. Though I've only read the first two, I REALLY liked them, and I also agree they are better than the Emperor Series (which I like, only to a lesser degree)...I'm really looking forward to the next volume.

I'm still awaiting my copy of FORGE OF DARKNESS, and in the meantime I'm keeping myself amused with Terry Pratchett's THE WEE FREE MEN, which is really solid stuff so far.

I have the first three Mongol books in the TRP so that's good to see.

Finished Aaronovitch's WHISPERS UNDERGROUND. Satisfied but not as impressed as w the first two books. More on that at the ded-thread.

Started Rollins' DEEP FATHOM but it's not grabbing me.

May start Zafron's THE ANGEL'S GAME as it appears my copy of FoD and THE APOCALYPSE CODEX are somewhere in Burundi...

So FORGE OF DARKNESS arrived...so methinks I'll be putting Pratchett aside for a quick mo while I read that.
