Finished "Antiphon". The plot really thickens in this one. There are some answers... but also many questions.
THis series is turning out to be something truly amazing.

Well, I picked up _Cold Magic_ by Kate Elliott again, hoping it would improve. And you know, it kinda did, enough to get me to the end anyway. don't know whether it's enough for me to pick up the sequel, but I might grab it from the library.

Just finished Darth Plagueis by James Luceno and for a Star Wars it wasn't all bad but it took forever to getting moving and had one of the most unintentional ridiculous scenes I've read it quite some time. At the point where Darth Sidious reveals himself for the first time he actually threatens to force-strangle a pet bird(that he had given as a gift no less) as proof of his "powers"- not since Harry's pet parakeet gets his head ripped off in Dumb and Dumber has a bird scene inspired as much sheer terror. Comically horribly written stuff right there.

On to Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card- haven't read anything by Card before and I figure I can breeze through the light fare quickly. Then I'll have to decide whether to finish the last book in the Mistborn trilogy or Orb Sceptre Throne.

I finally grabbed DRAGONFLY FALLING (Tchaikovsky) out of the ToRead pile and started it.

Currently on a chronological order Sharpe reread (got them all on the reader)
always loved the Sharpe books (although the last book, Trafalgar, prey and escape?) were milking the series a bit but still enjoyable enough fare)
Currently on Trafalgar, projecting a book a day maybe a little slower, can't wait to get to rifles, gold and eagle because they rock.

Finished reading "City of Dreams and Nightmare"
I'm sensing a trend, in that a lot of the "New Weird/steampunk-ish" writers tend to make a "the city" their setting: Mieville, Van der Meer, Gilman, Camplbell with Deepgate Book 1....
This isn't a bad thing, btw, just something i've noticed.

in any case, this book was the first in a series "A city of a Hundred Rows". It was a quick-paced, actiony book, in a novel enough setting, with some neat ideas, and some cliche ones, but used in a pretty good way. Not really anything extraordinary, but for a light read, it was really enjoyable, and had some genuinely likeable characters. I'll be looking to pick up the sequels.

next up, I will pick up the second hand of Daniel Abraham's Long Price Quartet. I read the first half and started this a while ago, but then somehtign came up, and it ended up being discarded.

I've got about 40 pages left to read of Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light. The first chapter threw me completely - I didn't think I was going to like the book at all - but the second chapter was all kinds of awesomeness and it's continued in that vein ever since. Hoping the ending will not disappoint!

Man, I have tried to get into no less than six different fiction books in the last few weeks and couldn't make nay of them fly.

So I decided it was probably Non-Fiction book time again. So I started Mitchell Zuckoff's LOST IN SHANGRI-LA which is a story about a WWII plane that goes down in a secluded/seemingly hostile valley in the mountains of New Guinea with various people aboard and how they survive and get home. I started it this morning and I'm already about 50 pages in. It's fascinating!

I bought 'Echo City' the other day, since I'm waiting for House of Chains to arrive, and I needed something to read during my wait (and because SE's comment on the cover caught my eye). I don't know what to think about it so far, about 130 pages in.

I reckon you should make room at the top of your SF to-read pile for Faith by John Love. A mysterious and invincible alien spaceship starts harassing the human Commonwealth so they send their own highest-tech warship to deal with it, crewed by sociopaths, psychopaths and various other murderers and criminals. At the same time some great space opera action and a complete head-trip - it gets weird. But it's the best SF debut I've read since Altered Carbon.

Also it has a fantastic cover. Manages to merge modern slickness with some proper old-school nostalgia.
