I am really enjoying my trip through fantasy classics.

I polished off MOON OVER SOHO last night...it was good, but I found I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first book...this one was just too many "Jazz" references for my liking. We get it, you like Jazz, there is no need for whole paragraphs discussing various master's of the style in a UF book (even if the plot involves Jazz). Other than that it was good, but I think I'd pick Mike Carey's Castor series any day over Aaronovitch's books (for good British-based Urban Fantasy). Still, I'll read the 3rd book when it comes out.
...
I wasn't put off by the jazz elements. i didn't think he overdid it and it was usually in the context of something paranormal going on. I did think Aaronovitch did a nice job buildling his world and magic system in this book, getting beyond the basics into some genuinely original places. I also thought his action scenes were better.
But i agree Carey is better on the balance. Darker and less action yet he manages to make the story more involving.
Still reading OST. Loving it.
