Just finished The Girl with Glass Feet, got it for the Kindle when it was on offer because a review mentioned miniature flying cattle. It wasn't bad, absorbing enough, short and slightly whimsical. Some of the characters didn't seem very well explored though and many of them were quite unlikeable or hard to connect with.

Going to finish up the book of Euripides plays i've been dipping into by reading Helen now.

Finished The Shadow Rising yesterday and dove right into The Fires of Heaven on my first read through of the WoT and I must say I'm liking it so far, there where some things I didnt expect but that's all to the good.

I'm glad to hear that you're liking Test of Metal. Stover did an amazing job writing for both Tezzeret and Nicol Bolas(that's one scary dragon!). Sadlly not all of the M:tG novels are this good though. Also fixed for proper Stover Fuckery.

As for myself, I finished Initiate's Trial just in time for OST to arrive. I'm already a hundred pages in and have informed all of my friends I'm not really going to be available over the next couple of days (my weekend).

Finished Helen and thought it would be a good lead in to the Odyssey which i've had waiting for a while, really enjoying the first few books and the translations is really good. Also re-reading GotM on the Kindle. Hopefully an upturn in reading and I'll finally be able to tick a few books off the ever growing to be read list.

Really? That sucks, I loved that book and am eagerly awaiting book 2 this fall.

Its not bad, but not my style, I'm picky when it comes to fantasy books, too spoiled by guys like Erikson and Martin!

Currently finishing up my re-read of GHOST STORY by Jim Butcher, after doing SMALL FAVOR, TURN COAT and CHANGES last week. I love Butcher's work and while not as layered as Erikson, it is still good to re-read some of the books and see what hints there are going forward that you may have missed first time round.

Bought the second omnibus of Michael J. Sullivan's RIYRIA REVELATIONS series, so will probably start into that this evening. The first omnibus was good fun, and while it isn't as polished as the likes of ROTHFUSS (or for badass characters, STOVER), it is thoroughly enjoyable. And from QuickTidal's reviews here on this site, it has a great finale to the series so I'm in. Looking forward to it.

I'm rounding the pg230 mark on Myke Cole's SHADOW OPS: CONTROL POINT and this is shaping up to be the best debut fantasy book I've read in a long while. A total blast!

Finished the Cold Commands today; while not as badass as The Steel Remains, it did great developing the characters and seemed to be more a part of something whereas, TSR seemed almost to be a stand-alone. Anyway, visited the Subforum per Amphibian's suggestion and, holy shit, did I miss a lot of stuff. In hindsight, I see it, but left to my own devices, I would remain nonplussed as to their connection with Kovac's world - and some nice theories by the way.


Anyway, just started Blood Rites; ten pages in and I'm loving it.

Put down Red Wolf Conspiracy at the 376 page mark. It's just a little too young for me now. After Erikson, Morgan, Abercrombie, Bakker, Mieville, Gilman and the like....it's just not working. I would've finished it but it's my bedside book and I only read about 10 pages a night and I don't feel like another week of it is gonna do anything for me. Have replaced it with A City of Saints and Madmen.

I finshed a full Malaz re-read yesterday (started over the holidays, got as far as MT, then school got in the way and slowed thins down).

Where AC was Noirish action thriller.....BA is military SF. It's great, but in a totally different way...which is one of the reasons the series is so impressive. I think I liked BA better than AC....

About 220 pgs into Blood Rites and I really wish Butcher had teamed up with Chuck Palahniuk and made this thing R+ rated, but as it is, it's pretty awesome anyway. Decided to not read City of Saints and Madmen as my bedside read, not that it's not good, just needs more attention than a couple pages a night, I think. I'm leaning toward Dying Earth Omnibus or Viriconium Omnibus instead, maybe switch out between the two, not really sure yet. Also, got A Shadow in Summer on hold at the library for when I'm done with BRites.

I'd really like to find something similar to Gilman's style if anyone has any suggestions; it's one I'd like to emulate for my own scratchings, plus it's just good read'n.

Finished Well of Ascension by Sanderson today and liked it but not as much as the first book- seemed to kind of drag at points but still enjoyed it overall. Looking to finishing off the trilogy but went back to Star Wars and started Darth Plagueis by James Luceno.

City of Saints and Madmen deserves all the attention you can give. Especially if you follow up with Shriek: an afterword and Finch. Jeff Vandermeer accomplished something remarkable with his three books and it pains me that so few have read them all.

Anyways, I've just started on Anthem, which has been resting on the pile for a little too long.
