In the run up to Christmas I'm re-reading THE HOBBIT on my Kindle, and doing my first read of SANDMAN by Neil Gaiman (which so far I am blown away by!)

I envy you the discovery of Sandman. Such an incredible series. Take all the greatness Gaiman's writing and distill it into the comics of life. ;)

Yeah, I'm reading the ABSOLUTE Vol. 1 as well so the colours have all been redone, it looks gorgeous and I keep thinking to myself "How have I not read this till now?!)

The only problem presented so far: The thing weighs a metric tonne and can only be read sitting cross legged with it open in front of you. LOL. Not that I'm really complaining.

It doubles as a car jack.

But i agree w Aces re reading SANDMAN for the first time - it's a brilliant brilliant series and Gaiman's skill with dialogue in this work is flawless, and most of the art is eyecrack.

Avoid spoilers like the herpes - you do NOT want to know any of what's to come if you can avoid it.

^^ Seconded, DO NOT READ THE SPOILERS.

Just finishing up The Belgariad. Not sure what to read next. I'm thinkin' maybe some Abercrombie... or maybe I'll catch up on the Dark Tower since I've only read the first one so far.

Abercrombie would be perfect because if The First Law is a dissection of anything in particular, it's The Belgariad.

Started a reread of Stephen Pinker's _The Stuff of Thought_.

Apart from me. Because I'm cold and dead inside and a communist and possibly a cylon... the evil kind, not the hotties who kept trying to sex up with people. :D

Recently finished the released Dresden material, and I feel I can sum up the series in two lines:

"If you ever stop writing about erect nipples, cat's paws, thirteen stools, five foot nothing cute blond asskickers, erect nipples, good people, or erect nipples, I'll kill you."
"If I did stop writing about erect nipples, cat's paws, thirteen stools, five foot nothing cute blond asskickers, erect nipples, good people, or erect nipples, I'd want you to." *gets on zombie dinosaur, rides away*

Harry is just so goony and Fool Moon so terrible and the rest is pretty sweet not gonna lie.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I have recently finished the first 13 Dresden books and wasn't all that impressed by Changes. The whole evil plan was just stupid. Maybe that was the point, I don't know.
I also picked up Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin and liked it a lot, although the ending came across a little too rushed.

At the moment I am about a hundred pages into Somer's The Electric Church.

Finished up ABSOLUTE SANDMAN Vol. 1 (basically the first 20 issues) and was really impressed. Great stuff. Can't wait to read the rest of the run!

Now onto the 1st of my Christmas gifts, READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline. Heard good things.

The next few issues kick the series into high gear. By the time you are approaching the end of the series, there may be feelings of actual love for the characters.

It is somehow as affecting as Dresden despite not having the added benefit of thousands and thousands more words to deepen the story. Read the Endless Nights and Dream Hunter books after you're done. Then hop onto Lucifer, while excusing the rough start that series has.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Awesome, good to know. I'll throw those onto my list as well.

Just finished Mistborn by Sanderson this morning and I liked it. For some strange reason when I started the book I thought it was set more in a Sci-fi setting so I had to change my mindset while reading and I still have no idea why I went into it like that.

Now trying to decide between going straight to Well of Ascension or A Dance with Dragons- leaning towards DwD but I'll make up my mind later tonight.

2/3 of the way through GGK's Tigana and I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people seem to dislike this book.
