Finished Kraken, now reading The City and the City also by Mieville. After that, it'll be time to embark on my New Year's Resolution to read a classic work of fiction by a different author every month.

January's will be Charles Dickens's classic Great Expectations (because I have it at home).

Just finsished Abercrombies Best Served Cold. Dear lord i hated this book. The first half was interesting, but i had to make myself finish the last quarter. I was just bored with it. Disappointing since i realed liked his trilogy.

I am reading the start of TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT for the time being, and I am likely to be picking up John Scalzi's 3rd Old Man's War universe book THE LAST COLONY on the way home, since I just finished THE GHOST BRIGADES and was really impressed by it, so I want to continue the story...

ToM so far is cool though. Finished the prologue.

Finished the Silent Land yesterday, wasn't overly impressed. The author didn't really spend enough time on the theme for my liking.

Just going to kill some time with Winston Churchill before the ebook version of ToM hits my Kindle on the 31st

Curious. For me it was the opoosite. I found the first half s bit slow but really enjoyed the second.

Surprising. I though COLD was his bets book so far. Moved him from my 'read eventually' to my 'pre-order' list.


Finished PETER AND MAX. If you're a fan of graphic series FABLES, this is a brilliant book. If you're not a fan of FABLES, you're cold and dead inside and this is only a good book because you won't understand large chunks of it, tho the author does try to inform your poor ignorant vacuous excuse for a soul.


My TRP is massive big HUGE and i need to be strategic now in what i read next... so many choices. Argh.

I also enjoyed Peter & Max....but then I've been a FABLES fan for years. I met Bill Willingham with a copy of the first issues way back when to sign. He's a nice fellow.

Finished up Summer Knight earlier today, and I'd say this was the biggest jump up in quality yet! I would have never guessed after reading Storm Front that things would get this epic.

I have a hypothesis that I wonder if anyone can comment on. I think that the less of a beating Harry takes, the less of a break you need after finishing to start the next book. Grave Peril was pretty emotionally draining and I needed a break before continuing, but now I can't wait to jump into Death Masks. I need to finish up some other stuff first though...

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to Dresdencrack before TCG comes out. Even though I usually read multiple books at once, Dresden and Malazan together would be an overdose.

Finished The Stainless Steel Rat, and was going to go for Kraken next, by Mieville, but heard a few too many negetive comments about it recently, so I'm gonna continue in to sci-fi con-artist vein with The Quantum Thief, by Hannu Rajaniemi instead.

Started THE LAST COLONY by Scalzi, then it will be onto THE BUNTLINE SPECIAL by Resnick followed by THE BREACH by Patrick Lee and then either a non-fiction breather book or I'll get fully into ToM (the great thing about ToM is that I am technically not behind other readers that much any longer and can take my time seeing as the final book doesn't bow till early 2012)

Kraken is awesome. And crazy. And insane. It's rubbery, tentacly goodness. No school girls are harmed, so it is not that kind of rubbery tentacly.

I totally enjoyed the first book. The rest of the series was at least one, possibly two entire books longer than it needed to be and could have done with some merciless culling of entire plot lines. It has a satisfying end that excuses some (not all) of the filler in the middle. The pay-off is solid enough to merit finishing the series.

I did not like MEMORY SORROW AND THORN although i did finish it, but i totally enjoyed WAR OF THE FLOWERS.

My views pretty much exactly mirror Abyss' in regards to Tad Williams. I enjoyed Otherland, and the ending was very good, but it did require a ridiculous amount of time to wade through the middle.
