The Standing Dead was probably my favourite book of last year, so powerful. However, thought the Chosen really dragged out too much in the middle, still enjoyable, but very heavy and demanding, loads of details to remember.

Where would I find it? Is it part of Innocents Aboard? I'm a big Wolfe fan too.

These Dark Tower books are definately getting better as they go along. So far the Waste Lands has really lived up to expectations. One of the things that really comes though in the writing is how much King is enjoying himself. Despite being so different from his other works, many scenes have the same feel.

Yah, i realized that a few hundred pages in, but initially i was like 'whoa'!

'Iron Council' was amazing.

Also just read Altered Carbon by R. Morgan - brilliant. Got the sequel TPB for less than the mmpb price at a clearance store, psyched to read it, but I have the next Bakker TDtCB book to read first. Kellhus is a bastard i can read about for hours.

- Abyss, on a good run.

Having never read Steven Pressfield before Im about to try his new one Alexander to see if he's any cop, anyone any words of wisdom about him before I start just so I know if its a waste of time?

Also about to read Auriel Rising so I'll see if its up to much. Recent ums and ahhs include the Ancestors of Avalon which to be honest I havent yet picked up off the reading pile as I havent read any of the others, have the Druid King to read (recently finished Briar King which I have to admit I enjoyed.)

Fritz Leiber's Tales of Lankhmar. This is really quite good and the old-fashioned style of writing appeals to me and gave me a few ideas with regards to my own writing.

A brief history of just about everything by Bill Bryson.

It's a really interesting book, I can't reccomend it enough

I'll save you alot of time, dont even bother with the treasured one (the next one in the latest eddings series) Have to say that Ive been unimpressed with his later stuff.

Nearly finished the Briar King and have to say really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one in the series, will probably read the Druid King next as no one has given me any helpful advice. Posted Image

@ Baran - fairly standard fantasy stuff, but still enjoyable enough. I perfered her standalone The Barbed Coil though (but a lot of people do hate it)
Anyway, changed my mind on the Briar King, I've now started Little, Big by John Crowley.

The Wizard by Gene Wolfe....not sure how I feel about this pair of books yet, I think it's going to be one of those where I won't know if I liked it until I'm finished Posted Image
