About to jump headfirst into The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. After seeing all the hype on here about it, I'm actually really excited.

Agreed. That's the one flaw with my idea. Maybe they get shuffled around so they become more contemporary with the Sinspire plot, I dunno.

My expectations were high after LIES. It didn't meet them.
The pirate storyline was detached verging on pointless, and the heist wasn't nearly as clever as it should/could have been.

I'll still read whatever Lynch does next but he's firmly in my library/second hand/sale whenever i spot it zone for now.

It's a very good read indeed. Personally think that Rubicon was much better, especially scientifically (Persian Fire has far less detail), though. If you haven't read that one yet, do so - it has my recommendation (and read Goldsworthy's Caesar after that to fill all the gaps).



Yes- that's the one. I did like it and I will check out Rubicon down the road. I had Persian Fire for awhile and had been meaning to get to it and I'm glad i did. I was hoping for a little more about the Persian side especially towards the end of the book but I enjoyed the basic outline of the beginning of the empire and how it began.

Started Ilium and am enjoying it so far.

I'm loving Stonewielder so far. Brand new locations, (mostly) brand new characters. It almost feels like a standalone novel set in the Malazan universe. And it features Esslemont's best writing by far.

Republic of Thieves is Feb 17th. I was on amazon (us) and it looks like you can get RoT, The Heroes (Abercrombie), and A Wise Mans Fear (Rothfuss) for like 40 bucks together. Not a bad price at all, but the kindle price for the three is even cheaper yet.

I keep seeing this grouping myself and thinking I ought to bite the bullet and order all 3....but their respective release dates might make me have to wait for one or the other....

I think that you can choose to have them shipped seperately during your checkout options... right?

You can indeed, but I had amazon mess that up once and I had to wait like an extra month...so I get leery...still, it's a fair deal and I will most likely do it. :unworthy:

Gollancz's own website has the hardback release down as next month, which should be a fairly decent sign it's coming out... in the UK at least.

amazon sometimes does this thing where you order a bunch of stuff, tick the 'to save money ship it all at once when it's all ready' option, and then they send it to you bit by bit as it becomes available, at no extra charge.

i don't know what magic calculation triggers this and i wouldn't risk it on a Malaz book or Dresdencrack, but it seems to happen a lot even so.

After a brief delay for various graphic novels, am back into PETER AND MAX. Fables is SO good it's just sick.

Just finished House of Chains by Steven Erikson and I loved it! To me fantasy does not get any better than this. As long as the book was I was not bored for a moment and I get bored easily. When I read GOTM it was when I first started reading fantasy and while I really liked it I was put off by the length and massive amount of information that is thrown at you. But now that I realize how much above Erikson is than other authors I savor each page like a fine wine and just enjoy the ride. On to Midnight Tides.

Just finished Stonewielder, which was great but unfortunately left me with more questions than I had to begin with. Now I'm going to start Towers of Midnight, at last, and I'm hoping to finish that by the 21st. HERE GOES...

I was compelled to mention that I am reading 'Mistakes were made (but not by me)' by Tarvis and Aronson. This is an extraordinary book that everyone should read. Cognitive dissonance, psychological blind spots, memories and the frightening aspects of confirmational bias...doesn't happen often, but this book is an eye opener.

Finally got to finish John Scalzi's THE GHOST BRIGADES and was even more impressed than the first book. What a wonderful sci-fi series!

Going to either start PANDORA'S STAR by Hamilton, WORLD'S END by Mark Chadbourn or TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT....decisions decisions.
