Currently reading "A Darkness at Sethanon" (last part of the Riftwar Saga) by Raymond E. Feist.

When I'm done I'm doubting wether I would begin with "the Innocent Mage" followed by "the Awakened Mage (Kingmaker\Kingbreaker series) by Karen Miller or "Before they are hanged" (The First Law, book two) by Joe Abercrombie.

Perhaps I should read Karen Miller first since I'm kinda itching to read other books of her since I read the two Godspeaker books and do a reread after of The Blade Itself followed by the other two books of the First Law.

Edit: typos

Read them both simultaneously. You have two eyes.

Re-reading Paul Kearney's The Ten Thousand. l read it a year or two ago and thought it was average, but l thought l will give another go while waiting for Jasper Kent's Twelve to get in at the library.

After not reading for at least a week, I managed to get around to finishing Under Heaven. It was pretty much what you'd expect from GGK - brilliance. The build up of all the potential intrigue at the court as to who gets the horses and all that was great, but my only complaint is that it didn't go anywhere much from there. Suddenly you-know-what happens and the outcome is a foregone conclusion. I did enjoy it a lot though.

Now going to read Wolfe's Shadow and Claw again, because it's been a while and the next Dresden book is taking forever to get in at the library.

Just finished Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. He has a great talent for writing one off novels, tho i did feel the ending was slightly rushed, and could have been fleshed out a bit more. Another good magical concept, maybe not as well developed and deployed as the Mistborn sage, but overall well enjoyed.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Finished Stross's The Fuller Memorandum over the weekend. Awesome stuff. Wonder if this is the end of the line for our favourite computational demonologist, though? Certainly a change of the status quo...

Currently reading Alan Sokal's Beyond The Hoax (non-fiction).

ARGH! Want! WANT!!!!

Currently on Cook's Black Company Bleak Seasons. Enjoying. Again, this is an improvement over the Books of the North. Not really sure why people complain about the change of narrator in the series. i'm really liking the new voices.

- Abyss, listens to the voices... and they tell me to do things... mweeheehee...

Come now Astra, you can't be surprised at this! I'm just waiting for you to declare it comeplete and utter trash, and you'll have redeemed yourself fully! Posted Image

Just finished reading Imperium by Robert Harris, and I have to say I've got a new favourite historical fiction author. It's an extremely accurate account of the life of Cicero, he even integrates Cicero's acutal speeches into the story. While not of the epic length I normally read, it has to be one of the most engaging and vivid books on ancient Rome I've had the pleasure of reading. I'm on to the next book in the trilogy Conspirata, I expect it will be just as entertaining as the first one.

Ooh, that reminds me: saw an ad on the tube for a ficto-historical account of the rise of Sumer. I think it was called Clash of Empires, but can't remember the author, and searching for that title brings up loads of random results (it's a popular title, it seems).

Anyone know the book I mean?

I know Sam Barone's Conflict of Empires came out in February of this year, it covers the beginnings of the Sumerian empire. Is that the one you meant?

I'm almost done with Mieville's "The Scar", which, I must admit, after a not-so-good experience with his short stories, I like very much. The problem is, now that I'm on page 566, I discovered that the copy Mr. B lent me is unfortunately missing 50 pages. And that's making me very, very angry... :) Now I'll have to order a new copy because I don't like to leave things unfinished...

Starting Barry Hughart's "Bridge of Birds" now. Looking forward to read this one, heard a lot of good things about it.

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

Ah, I love The Scar :)

Just started Neal Asher's newest, Shadow of the Scorpion. To be honest, I'm a bit dissapointed. Hilldiggers was his last book that really reached the levels of his earlier stuff.

Finished Kraken (awesome book) and the Cardinal's Blades (entertaining) and am halfway through Perdido Street Station atm, which I like so far but do not love as much as Kraken. Must be the lack of a Collingswood.

Imho, PSS has so many infodumps, practically a whole lot before every single plot twist and/or new introduction, that imho it detracts a tiny bit from what is otherwise a very gripping read.

Finished The Mists of Avalon and found it a strong book. Not my favourite take on Arthur's legend( that will always be Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles) but it's close.

Finished Stephen King's Song of Susannah yesterday and started Insomnia because it was lying nearby and I was too lazy to get up and go the three paces to my bookshelf. I liked how Song of Susannah ended. Now I've got only one book left in the Dark Tower series, yay!
