Since when Americans can visit Cuba? :)

I don't believe they can.
However, since I currently reside in Canada, didn't really bother me, lol.

Finished reading Gary McMahon's 'Hungry Hearts', a tale of zombies and serial killers. McMahon wears his influences a little too obviously but this was still a lot of fun to read (not for the squeamish though!) My full review is over Here. I'm still working my way through 'Fire' and it's starting to drag a bit now...

Finished Neal Asher's _Orbus_ over the weekend. Great fun, and much less work to get though than some previous Spatterjay novels have been.

Spoiler

Also finished Patrick Rothfuss's _The Name Of The Wind_. Really assured debut, great fun to read. There's a great deal of 'A Wizard of Earthsea' here, which is no bad thing at all. Look forward to reading the sequel.

because I have ot give htem away, read "Sanstorm" by james Rollins

and "Riptide" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

both were essentially treasure-hunting adventure novels--sort of YA, now that I think about it.
nothing spectacular about either.

Now i'm back to my own reading pile, and started "Dusk" by Tim Lebbon. This has endorsement from SE, among others, and i'm 150 pages in and it looks sufficiently dark and interesting...

Just finished Carey's NAMING OF THE BEASTS. See elsethread - totally satisfying book.
Moving on the Dan Brown's latest. Hoping it's more 'Angels and Demons' than 'Davinci Code'.

'God of Clocks' was pretty cool, just not quite as brilliant as it could have been... :p

Finished reading Dan Abnett's 'Triumff', a swashbuckling romp set in an alternate history where magic has superceded technology in an Anglo-Hispanic Empire. Although the descriptive pieces suffered from 'padding' the rest of the book was a great read, full of dashing swordplay and plenty of humour. My full review is over Here. The plan now is to finish off 'Fire' tonight...

I finished up Canticle by Ken Scholes (review). It's even better than Lamentation was - this is a very promising series.

Now I'm reading Eyes Like Leaves by Charles de Lint - a novel written over 20 years ago that's just now getting published.

Finally finished reading Kristin Kashore's 'Fire', a prequel to last year's 'Graceling'. There's a lot more to this book, than there was to it's predecessor, and this made for an engaging read. It was just a shame that the approach taken, with the leading character, was such that several of the resolutions were signposted far too early... My full review is over Here. I'm now reading Joe Mckinney's 'Quarantined' and plan on starting 'The Sad Tale of the Brother's Grossbart' over the weekend...

Finished "Dusk" by Tim Lebbon. I've meant to buy this a long time ago, but just never got around to it until now.

Now, i hear, this guy mostly writes horror and this was his much-endorsed fantasy debut.
Well, he's got some cool ideas and the setting of "magic coming back to the land after long absence" has a nice twist on it, so that it doesn't seem like it's been done to death.
But aside from that, the story seems to be a pretty boring "farm boy discovers he's the chosen one" quest-type story.

BUT

it is SO deliciously dark, and the world is so almost purely evil, that it just keeps you interested.
and i'm happy to say, it appears this man belongs to the GRRM school of thought when it comes to killing characters--i.e, he has no problems with it.

i'll be getting the sequel "Dawn" soon.

in the meanwhile, I'll be giving Janny Wurts' Alliance of Light series as try...

Finally finished DOD and have a stack of books to muddle through.

Beginning with The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie.

Have read a lot of positive things on this board about this book, and 80 pages in i'm enjoying it. Great characters !

Also going to see where the 3rd Shadows of the Apt book ( Blood of the Mantis) goes. Hopefully it will open up a bit more and the series will develop into something more..... Although it may be the final book ! Have to wait and see.
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

Finished reading 'Death Troopers' (Joe Schreiber), a Star Wars novel that's chock full of zombies! I had an issue with certain characters being included, as well as a certain naming convention, but on the whole this was a great read with something in it for fans of horror, Star Wars and zombies. My full review is over Here. I'm now reading 'The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart' amongst others...

I finsihed up Eyes Like Leaves by Charles de Lint - this is limited edition of previously unpublished work from the '80s being released by Subterranean. It was OK, probably only for collectors and big fans of de Lint (full review).

I'm now reading Fast Ships Black Sails edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer while waiting for a very specific book to arrive in the mail which will likely take over my life for a several days at least.

Just started BLOOD BOUND by Patricia Briggs, and I've got IRON KISSED and BONE CROSSED on deck to chase it with. Loving these short, quick, action-packed Mercy Thompson Urban Fantasy books!

Finished reading Shaun Hutson's 'Last Rites', a book that comes really close to being a complete copy of Hutson's 'Nemesis'. Once I realised this, and how the book was going to end, the book didn't grab me at all. My full review is over Here. I'm still working my way through 'The Sad Tales of the Brothers Grossbart' and I've got a couple of others on the go as well.

Just finished Devil's Brood by Sharon Kay Penman. It was excellent, but then, her work always is. Really well written and full of detail, all while managing to stay incredibly interesting from beginning to end. I would say it's a must read for any historical fiction fans out there. She definitely is one of the best writers in the genre. I can't wait for the follow up to this book to come out.

Still reading "Curse of the mistwraith"

I'm interested, but it's slow going, because I've had a bright idea to re-read Perumov's "Diamond Sword, Wooden Sword" on Friday night, when I had no new books to read.
and that turned into a massive Perumov re-read of the entire "Chronicles of the Rift" series...

Finally, I've managed to get my hands on GRIDLINKED, the first in the Agent Ian Cormac series by Neal Asher. I've already read all the others, so i'm pretty sure i'll enjoy it.

I also got THE SKINNER by Neal Asher, which is the first in the Spatterjay series. Big fan of his Polity novels so it should be entertaining as well.

Am also doing a re-read of THE BONEHUNTERS as well at the moment, which I'll probably finish tonight. Figured I'd go back a few books before doing my re-read of DUST OF DREAMS. Will have to take my time with that one, to see everything i missed on the initial run through.
