I like them both, two very different styles.

Abercrombie is definitely more of a "sure thing" for you RLY, but I'd recommend Keck if you're feeling adventurous.

I'm about to pick up the "Books of the South" Omnibus by Glen Cook. Can't wait.

Im on the second Black company book...

color me impressed...

some of the best reading I have had in a long time...

some rereshingly good books...and unique as well.

I'm reading the poetry of John Berryman.

Life, friends, is boring. We must not say so.
After all, the sky flashes, the great sea yearns,
we ourselves flash and yearn.

So, yeah! Yay me.

and moreover my mother told me as a boy
(repeatedly) 'Ever to confess you're bored
means you have no

Inner Resources.' I conclude now I have no
inner resources, because I am heavy bored.
Peoples bore me,
literature bores me, especially great literature,
Henry bores me, with his plights & gripes
as bad as achilles,

Who loves people and valiant art, which bores me.
And the tranquil hills, & gin, look like a drag
and somehow a dog
has taken itself & its tail considerably away
into mountains or sea or sky, leaving
behind: me, wag.

I've been reading a lot of Glen Cook these days.

I have read:

The Black Company - Omnibus
A Passage to Arms
A Cruel Wind & A Fortress in Shadow - Dread Empire Omnibus

And now I am reading the Books of the South.

The Black Company books are top notch.

A Passage to Arms was pretty good.

A Cruel Wind was a little rough, but A Fortress in Shadow was wonderful.

I'm still undecided wether this is an amusing Centz-related joke or just a mistake... I'm gonna ssume the former;)

I'm re-reading Gardens of the Moon. Again. 16th or 17th reading now, I think.

;) I wouldn't make mistakes like that. They're right in front of me! :D

Just finished reading The Secret History of Moscow by Ekaterina Sedia.
Reading blogs’ reviews on this book, I was under the impression it was a good fantasy.
It is not.
I would say it is a fiction with a bit of introduction of Russian fairy tales' protagonists such as Koschey the Deathless, some bits and pieces of history of Moscow, points of view of people who lived in the former USSR and witnessed the cataclysm of Perestroyka but otherwise it is a very odd book.
I didn’t like it. I found it extremely boring. All the time I hoped some action is going to take place maybe just maybe in the next chapter but it never happened. The characters and their life stories were quite real, nothing to do with fantasy genre. The ending was just meh.

I think people who liked American Gods by Neil Gaiman, might like this book.

I believe I am not ready to start Child of Flame [Crown of Stars 4] by Kate Elliott yet, so I am going to read The Electric Church by Jeff Somers

I'm going very slowly through Return of the Crimson Guard and a bit more quickly through The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon.

Wouldn't the fifth and final Gap novel, This Day All Gods Die, be a good book to check out next?

Otherwise for fantasy I'd say check out George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, starting with A Game of Thrones, and for SF I'd recommend Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy, which starts with The Reality Dysfunction.

Can second the recommendation there for A Song of Ice and Fire.

Currently just starting Bakker's Prince of Nothing series after hearing many a good thing. So far, so good. Very impressive.

Just be warned that A Song of Ice and Fire is an unfinished series with unknown future. It might be finished in 5 years, or 20 years.

or not at all. I would suggest you finish the gap series, then since you're digging Donaldson, read thhe Mordant's Need books. It's only a two book series (duology?) so it's not a big time commitment, but it's quite good with a unique magic system.

Ray said exactly what I was going to say, so...yeah.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

IMO - Yes.

Some people criticise The Silver Spike, which is book 4 in the series but it is sort of stand alone and the only book that might be skipped but I liked it anyway.
