Finished HORUS, took a break for Dresden and Addie, the back to FALSE GODS, which was solid enough to send me directly into GALAXY IN FLAMES.

These books are not bad at all!

So help me out here peoples... are the books in this bundle... as good?

Xenos and First and Only by Abnett are excellent. It is worth it just for that, and there's a good chance you'll like one or more of the other books.

First and only is worth it, beware, that series can suck you in, it's 15/16 books of awesome

Tonight I'll likely finish Silvia Moreno-Garcia's MEXICAN GOTHIC, a nice, creepy read for the Halloween season.

I continue to read and enjoy THE CLOCKWORK BOYS by T. Kingfisher. Such a wonderful book.

I also gave MAGIC OF RECLUCE by Modesitt one more go.
This time I was able to deal with the insane amounts of onomatopoeia (which is the thing that threw me off the book the first time I tried)...it was still annoying, but I just glazed over it.

The two other things that bounced me off it this time were the casual misogyny of the protagonist - he calls one of the female characters "that bitch" like ten times in the first 75 pages and even "the bitch" when her name ceases to be important to him...he also comments on the shape of the shy characters breasts...inexplicably, and my "Holy shit I Don't Care" reaction to all the daily slice of life stuff like woodworking, and food...a facet of these books that I hear never ceases to be a thing.
Oh a bonus bounce feature: describing every measurement in cubits. Holy hell my man, no one wants to read and posit an ancient mode of measure in your fantasy novel.

So yeah, I think this might be my last attempt at Modesitt. This series gets a lot of praise but man it's not for me.

Finished Revelation Space.

Not bad, I enjoyed a lot of it, found the writing a bit clunky in places. Not sure I want to jump into book 2 unless it gets better?

Need something else quickly. Either.. jump back into the Red Rising series (I finished the main trilogy but not the follow ups), could try Harrow the Ninth; or another unrelated but decent sci fi series anyone could recommend?

You can try Chasm City (which is technically the 2nd book, but also not really part of the trilogy made from books 1/3/4.) It's a much different animal than the rest of the series. Or if you want a little less commitment I recommend his Diamond Dogs/Turquoise Days omnibus collecting two unrelated novellas set in the same universe.

Finished it last night. It was very good, but then I expected nothing less. Once again, North writes a very moving, compelling, human character in Harmony. I can't say I was entirely satisfied with how the story ended, but at the same time I'm not sure it could have ended any other way.
