I've been curious about "Ash" but unable to locate in dead tree, and reading a book over 1k pages on my phone just feels like masochism.

You want mine?

I can have the drones deliver it to your house.
We just need to know longitude, latitude, colour, and whether you want it on the front step, back step, or cranium as you innocently depart one day.

I'm still not sure Abyss isn't a sentient cat with WiFi access...there is no evidence he's a human at all really.

I was asked to wait before posting my review for A Brightness Long Ago. Now that the pub date is just a few weeks away, you can now check it out here.

Not as sprawling or as vast in scope as Under Heaven or River of Stars, Kay's latest remains another memorable read.

Just finished STILETTO, O'Malley's bk 2 in his Chequay series.

It was much MUCH better than book 1 THE ROOK. The cast is more interesting and better developed, the humour more present and worked in better, the action more over the top and violent, the sf/f elements better thought out and genuinely fun to read about. The author improved on all his strengths from bk 1 with this book, and even managed to keep the espionage/spy elements prominent and logical to the story.

I can't say much about the plot without spoiling some major developments from the first book, so let me leave it with this: the duology is entertaining urban fantasy with a spy theme, the first book is worth a look and the second is just great great fun.

Started the latest Expanse book TIAMAT'S WRATH... 3 chapters in and oh god, the feels... SO MUCH THE FEELS.

(i mean that in a good way btw)

Kickstarter backers got Michael J. Sullivan's 4th Legends of the First Empire novel AGE OF LEGEND three months early. Robin dropped the eBook VIA Kickstarter backer page last night. So I'm going o be starting that presently.

Only read book 1. Wasn't a huge fan, possibly actively disliked from what I remember. Was a long time ago but wasn't for me and felt zero inclination to continue.

I think QT or Morgy sing the series praises though? Could be wrong

Finished Tchaikovsky's Cage of Souls. That is an excellent book - he's crafted an incredibly rich world and a pretty massive cast of interesting characters within the 400-odd pages. There's a whole bunch of completely different great ideas in here without it ever being rushed. Basically he's created a dying world with a long long long history and done a great job of having the fragments and remains of several different parts of that history come together into one concrete story in the world's dying throes. Probably my favourite Tchaikovsky so far.

Then I read Permafrost. Was enjoyable, though it didn't grab me the way it did some of y'all others. I share the view that a bit more could have been done to establish a certain character and generally feel the stakes feel more personal.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

On Inheritance:

Spoiler

They're both significantly better books than the first one imo, you could really see Jemisin learning her craft. It took me a fair while to read on after the first book, but I read the second two in quick succession.
