I love the scene in man in the iron mask (Hella dark now that I think on it) is when Aramis saws through the beam.

As a character piece yes it's excellent in the cast and performances, but as a straight up 3 musketeers, gotta go with Keither

The best 3 Musketeers is the 1979 3-part Soviet musical mini-series.

I dunno... somehow "ALL FOR ONE AND ONE IS MOTHER RUSSIA" wasn't nearly as catchy, even with the slave orchestra.

Agreed. "You sawed the beam!"

I think the best bit in the whole thing is when The new Musketeers (in service to the shitty brother king) are up against D'Artagnan and the original Musketeers in the jail hallway and none of the young crew have the stomach to REALLY go up against the old crew...who all run around the corner with only swords and charge them...Bad Louis is screaming at them to fire and the young commander just says "Magnificent valour" and they all "miss" their shots. It's so poignant. Following orders while also doing the right thing.

This has prompted me to realize that I have a nice copy of TWENTY YEARS AFTER and haven't read it yet, let alone the VICOMTE DE BRAGALONNE...so maybe it's time to Read those.

Twenty Years is amazing, probably my favourite Dumas work.

"Vicomte" is hard reading. I re-read it a few years back, and it's still a slog.

Wanted to dive back into the Deathgate Cycle, but having only read DRAGON WING (and a few years back) I had completely forgotten it...so I've restarted the whole series.

Which reminds me, it's $3 on amazon right now.Canada / USA

Just Finished Seanan MacGuire's MIDDLEGAME.
Totally worth the read. Interesting concept, great characters who are bothe xceptional and very normal at the same time... no superheroes or ex SF, just people in an insane situation.
I particularly enjoyed how she wrote the brother-sister protags... siblings in fantasy tend to be written the same as you'd expect friends, sworn enemies, or go the TIGANA / GoT route. None of that here.
Not high action at all, the action is very secondary to the story, but well done, and the set-up to pay-offs are many and meticulous. I understand why this book is getting the level of praise that it is.

Now... on to Peter Clines' new one, TERMINUS.
VERY excited.

I just looked up Middlegame and remembered rejecting the book because I hated the cover.

Don't judge a book by its cover picture of a murdered woman's severed hand alchemically transformed into a multi-purpose Hand of Glory device used to great effect in the story.

And anyways we're telling you the book is great so cover appeal is wholly irrelevant.

Audible exclusive, tho it will show up in dead tree and ebook in a month or three.
Ray Porter is the narrator ans he's incredible. I'm just a few chapters in and very happy.

You do. You really REALLY do.

EX-HEROES is great fun, but at base it's superheroes vs post-zompocalypse world and Clines works the tropes to entertaining effect. THRESHOLD is where Clines gets weird and creative and mostly just wows.
BTW i see PARADOX BOUND (great book) isn't always included in the THRESHOLD set. It should be, albeit in a minor way.

I'm a little bummed about Middlegame, because it popped up in my Google feed earlier this week with a 2-hour-old article from Tor.com saying "Download Middlegame for free until the end of the month!" but when I clicked the link, the article had since been deleted.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

"No, no, I promise. My hideous friend is really nice once you get to know her. You should totally go on a date with her."

Hmmm.

I hate when i miss a Tor freebie for a book i wanted or later decided that i wanted. Missed that one too.

For what it's worth i think the book is worth the dollars. The earbook narrator is Amber 'Tara from Buffy' Benson and she utterly nails most of the voices.

Just realised that the guy playing Richelieus bulldog (Rochefort) also plays Nottingham's bulldog (Gisborne) in the best version of robin hood (Costner version, again the casting, especially the Villain makes this film the best and most fun Hood)
