Ment - I think it's TTH when the Trygalle Guild lands there.

Yeah that was my thinking as well.

"Crack'd Pot Trail" is doing my head in. There's more verbosity than Kruppe at his best.

Just Finished GIDEON THE NINTH.

Details are in the ded(DEAD!)thread but short spoiler free version is that this book is great, wholly worth the money/reading, and sufficiently stand alone that i'm glad i didn't wait for the trilo to be complete.

Earbook narrator is a voice-genius.

...tough act to follow, but i've been wanting to get back to the Jacka's ALEX VERUS series for a while, so after a quick internet refresher on 1-3, on to book 4, CHOSEN.

Further along in Salem's Lot.
Stephen King is a genius. I really love how the book just flows

After seeing it mentioned here, jumped back into BLACK SUN RISING...

About a third of the way through The Ember Blade, if didn't expect the supernatural/horror aspect. I'm digging it.

I didn't really love Black Sun Rising (not that it's a dud, it just kinda kept me at arms length), but books 2 and 3 were pretty darn good. It's a series that really effectively builds on what came before, so BSR was at least retroactively worth it for me.

I read BSR and felt the same way. I'll have to finish the trilogy at some point.

Finished Volume 2 of the KB&B Collected Tales.

Crack'd Pot Trail left me bewildered and confused; Fiends of Nightmaria I read in one sitting and it was very light reading by comparison; I felt the comedy was a tinny bit over-done, but overall it's an enjoyable tale.

I'll try "Red Sister" next as a commute read.

RISING is not the best part of the trilo. It's very much a first book in a series. I could criticise a few points, but ultimately i enjoyed it and even reread it years later and still did. But it's only in 2 and 3 that certain characters and storylines really really start to cohere and the story improves as a result.

The trilo is not without its flaws, but i stand by it being worth the eyetime because it's also has some excellent originality of setting (that still stands out to me as original decades later), plot, and character, some excellent sequences, and overall an entertaining read. One character in particular, by the end of the trilo, remains among my top faves ever read.

One further suggestion... don't wait too long between books. This trilo REALLY reads better altogether while prior events are still reasonably clear in the thinkymeatz. A lot of the subtlety, some fairly clever but blink-and-you'll-miss-them setup/payoffs, and chunks of character development, flow very tightly from one book to the next.

I've gotten way past my initial attempt and I'm thoroughly enjoying it now, so I'll probably nab the other two books used and just read the whole trilogy.

Just my $0.02, but i don't think you'll regret it. A rare instance where the hype is living up to the book.

I'm reading Fall; or, Dodge in Hell by Neal Stephenson which isn't very good. Readable, and some interesting ideas, but it's just a collection of all his worst habits. The thing the story is about dooesn't start till halfway in. It's basically a collection of Stephenson's bad habits.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I must admit, I adore Stephenson's infodumps. what's he on about this time?

Stephenson is hit or miss for me. I'm almost done with Seveneves, which I liked.
