Isn’t Naamah’s Kiss book 7 of the Kushiel’s Legacy series?

Yes, if Andorion read that, then he's missing six entire books of context and lead up.

Carey's a good author if you give her the central conceit of a magic sex worker.

Though, to be fair, I haven't read the latest trilogy yet, simply because I'm waiting for the ridiculous prices to go down here. Hobb's books have a particular problem with high prices that make me go 'nope, maybe in a few years'. Besides, I have to make my way through the Rainwild Chronicles first. Ugh.

Stop at book two. It's honesty some of her weakest work.

Yeah I knew I was missing some context with Naamah's Kiss but honestly the book was not that bad
Starless, was a new book, set in a new universe and it was extremely mediocre

Just finished Fitz 8. It very much reminded me of the pace bk 3 as I said earlier. Pretty cool ending but I give the climax in 3 a slight edge over this one. Now I think I have to go back on one of my 3 main wants now that I have finished bk 8...also some bk 5 & 6 bits in this tag as well:
Spoiler

Onto Fitz 9.

Spoiler

In other news! ...I caved and have started Fool's Assassin last night. Since I'm only reading this to see some more Fool and how ridiculous Fitz can get anymore, I don't care all that much for continuity, I have reasised. I have all of the Rainwild Chronicles but I am definitely not getting around to them this year and I am having a hard time focusing on anything serious, reading-wise.

DNF'd Kings of the Wyld. This book is my first DNF - bear in mind that I managed to finish WOK and all.

Gonna read Lamora 2 when the fancy takes me to pick up a book again.

Reading the second Ben Kane EAGLES OF ROME book, HUNTING THE EAGLE...my gods these books are good. I only just started it, but already back into the thick of it and completely engrossed. I'm so glad I still have most of Kane's books to read ahead of me, they are such a treat!

i Just finished up Battle for the Abyss (horus heresy number....6/7? I dunno) last night as it had been sitting at 70% for a long time.
Was debating what to pick up next, have the 3rd Book in one of Kanes trilogies sitting on a shelf. I think it'll do fine for my next read.

Read 2 Bohumil Hrabal books there (Closely Observed Trains and the wonderful I Served the King of England) I had never heard of him before I gleaned his name for Forsythes Eloquence book (another delightful author) and the Hrabal books are just that wonderful whimsical style in that takes you on a meandering journey that isn't exciting or daring, just... entertaining and the prose and dialogue are wonderful, especially considering its a translation, and Hrabals work was, at one stage, considered untranslatable. Makes me wonder how much was lost in translation from Czech to English.

ETA - the seemingly randomness at times put me in a mind of Catch 22

You would be best off going back and starting with book one. The series is quite good.

About halfway through Babylon's Ashes. It was weird reading this while finishing off S3 of the TV show at the same time.

About 200 pages left in "Ink" . Slow going still. I'm hopeful I can finish it by the end of the month.

"Dreaming Void" re-read coming along much better. Having finished the Commonwealth duo first does help in understanding some finer points and references.

The other day I ended a huge book-reading slump (hadn't read anything but comics in well over a month) by burning through Megan Abbott's Queenpin, which was an awesome noir romp. (It's still $1.99 on Amazon: US / CA.)

Currently reading Anthony's Bourdain's Medium Raw. No real structure to this, seems like he just picks a random topic each chapter, maybe about his past, or food, or the restaurant industry. The industry stuff leaves me a little cold, but with everything else, his writing is completely mesmerizing.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Ah, thanks for reminding me of Queenpin. I always wanted to read that and it'll make a good 'in-between' book.
I finished Brief Cases. It was pretty good. Not much to say about it except the bigfoot stories were worth the wait, there's a few cool new POV stories, and Zoo Day -- despite a gimmick whose transitions are a little shaky -- turned out to be really sweet and interesting. Only 2-3 of the stories will probably wind up being consequential, and this is the best of them.

Now onto The Thousandfold Thought, if I can think it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah I kind of wish I'd reread the Commonwealth Saga before starting the Void trilogy - there was a bunch of characters and references I'd completely forgotten about!

Reading Valour by John Gwynne. Okayish.

Reading Coldest War by Ian Tregillis. So very utterly dark.

Rereading Library at Mount Char. As insane as ever.

Reading The Cider House Rules. Was the author high when he wrote this?

John Irving is a very, very strange author. I don't think he has a drug problem, but he's very, very into certain things happening in his books.

I love a big chunk of his writing and absolutely hate the rest.

I've never read John Irving, but I do know he's responsible for one of the greatest scenes in movie history:

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I think someone did a checklist of Irving things that he likes to happen in his books.

"Is there a bear? Do any scenes take place in Vienna? Is anyone a wrestler? Does a parent die or disappear? Is there a sex worker?" etc

It's reductive, but yet very on the nose.

Really?

I quite enjoyed Kings of the Wyld - it was a mindless action romp with lots of nods to music. Breezed through it tbh.

Remember Coco, Maark's a bit odd in his tastes. If a book seems to be getting generally positive buzz around here, He'll likely hate it around 75% of the time.

That being said, I've been thinking long and hard on this and I think I have the perfect recommendation for you Maark. The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind seems like it'll be right up your alley good sir.
