Finished BRIEF CASES (it was as awesome as I'd hoped)
Started Anthony Ryan's THE WAKING FIRE, and though I'm only about 20 pages in so far, I'm really enjoying the world and the characters!

Iiirc, Side Jobs comes with notes telling you when each story fits chronologically in the series.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I'l be interested to know the quality of this book.
He can certainly write though I really hated the direction he took his first series, The Ravens Shadow.

I am having a very hard time getting into "Ink" . Not sure why, because I read "Velllum" pretty quickly.
I'm sure part of this is because I'm not home that much, because summer and sports. But still.
This is the book I start reading, and then fall asleep.
On the other hand, "Necessary Evil" picked up. I'm still not crazy about Tregillis, but the whole "the timelines are now mutable" is perking my interest. Should finish soon.

I absolutely loved Waking Fire and the sequel. I liked everything about it, especially the world and plot premise. I think this series has a lot more potential than the previous one.
I think I am breaking out of my reading slump. Started reading The Philosophers Flight and I really like it so far.

I'm waiting to see the reception for the final book before jumping in. I do love some of the covers I've seen for the trilogy.

It's probably because Ink is, in many ways, quite a lot weirder than Vellum.

Finished "Necessary Evil" . It was OK, a fairly good conclusion, but ionno. Nothing about this series struck me as "mind-blowing" the way some people here described it.
For the next commute read I'm thinking "Wall of Storms" since it's getting good buzz, and apparently it completes a duology (and I've been on a completionist kick with my commute reads lately). But I think I need smth lighter first, so I might go for Hamilton's "Void" trilo- I already own all 3, they're pretty short, and I read the Commonwealth books only a few months ago.

Finished A War In Crimson Embers the other day — an extremely satisfying ending to an extremely enjoyable series. This is right up there behind Black Company and Malazan for me when it comes to in-the-trenches, pure badassery fantasy. Long live the new Black Pope!
I also finished Benedict Patrick's novella, They Mostly Come Out At Night. He crafts a mysterious world (that at first reminded me of Peter Brett's Demon Cycle) that weaves together elements of myth and fairytale from numerous cultures around the world — and he then turns it into something altogether unique. I wasn't exactly satisfied by the ending, but it was still a good ending; just not the one I was hoping for. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for future works from him, as I think he's an author to watch.
Next up — Brust's Iorich.

I’ve read both since I posted that. Not clear which is accurate.
In any event Ment it’s not that heavy, and ends with nothing hanging.

Benedict Patrick does already have three books in the Yarnsworld, uh, world. And if you sign up for his mailing list you can get some free short stories.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
