FInished "Tyranny of the Night". Kick-ass book, action-packed ending, and good set-up for the sequel. I was basically sold on the setting alone, but the book delivered in spades. I'm already looking into ordering the sequel.

In commute I started "Nightmare Stacks", the 7th Laundry Files novel, and it's pretty good so far, 3 chapters in.

Not sure what to read at home next. After New Year I'm planning to start going down my Goodreads TRP in order in which I've added all books, but until then I have some leeway. I have a ton of options, it may take me some time to decide, but i'm leaning towards a non-fiction book for now.

I love Cook's Instrumentalities of the Night series! It's a shame it didn't sell well enough to get the ending it deserved with a fifth book.

It is fantastic. I'm planning a reread soon.

...Seriously, Lawrence killed it with this [RED QUEEN'S WAR] trilo. THORNS was good, but this is just a whole other level. I keep almost jumping back to the beginning of the thing happening in the middle to read/listen again, then something else happens that utterly propels the story fwd too hard to stop. Jalan is a great great pov character.

Spoiler re something in bk 3 i need to exclaim about....

Spoiler

Fucking.

Epic.

Glorious.

Started The Great Darkness Saga last night, good to hear you liked it.

...

Liking it a lot!
I have a huge nostalgic fondness for the original LoSH stories, and it's a treat that they included so many issues pre the actual Great Darkness story.

Just hitting the part where the Big Bad is becoming active.

Started Fritz Leiber's SWORDS & DEVILTRY...I'm only a little ways in so far, but damn if Fafhrd and Grey Mouser aren't SUPER entertaining! So glad I got this ebook omnibus!

IKR!
I've read the F&GM books like three times, always loved them. It's just such classic fantasy with all the fun stuff amp'd up and very little to complicate. Simple plots, great characters, terrific writing style.

Just Finished the RED QUEEN'S WAR trilo in earbook. Damn, that was great. Must relisten to a bunch of stuff from bk 3 now.

Then on to PERSEPOLIS RISING.

I typically can't tolerate older comics except in short reading sessions due to the wordiness and cheesy dialog. So, I hesitated to start this. I almost bailed at the beginning, but I stuck with it after seeing your post and I am glad I did. This is so good! Turns out I don't mind wordiness, as this has a bit of that, it's the bad dialog that bothers me and this does not have that. Even the art, although a bit dated, is really good.

Let me know if Perspolis Rising has much stuff past the gates, because that's about all I'm interested in anymore.

No specific order for F&GM. You can easily google pub and chron orders, but the stories are all standalones, jump around in time, and almost never cross-reference and then only in the most passing ways.

Finished Oathbringer it just isn't that much to say the finish was an avenger movie finish with superpowers and all, something I expect in popcorn movies. Not going to rant more here the books simply reinforce my view that Sanderson really doesn't write much worthwhile most of the time.

Probably going to take one off Dancer's Lament, Persepolis Rising, Greatcoats series or A War in Crimson Embers next but perhaps I should take something with no expectations first to get Oathbring out of the system.

Just reviewed Stephen R. Donaldson's Seventh Decimate. Weakest Donaldson work to date. It's that bad. . . :D

I could have told you that Oatbringer would disappoint for free. It doesn't even bring oats. It's a LIE. A filthy, filthy LIE.

For any Gaunt's Ghosts fans, the newest book, The Warmaster, just released. It's been over 6 years since the last one so I'm thrilled to have my hands on it. Strangely, and I'm not sure if it's a UK thing, the hardcover has no dust jacket and the pages are really thick. I've had to look at the page number on top every time because it feels like I'm turning 2-3 pages each time.

SWORD And DEVILTRY does appear to contain "origins" (as it were) for both Fafhrd and Grey Mouser before they met...but you wound't absolutely NEED to read it first. It sounds like everything else is well standalone.
