Finished 12 chapters of Oathbringer. Only one standout so far. Is there a dedthread?

Finished up Vallista and it was decent but not one of the stronger Taltos novels, the imporant parts where found in a few chapters, the rest was a sidequest.

Started up Harbringer of Storm part two of Bodard's Aztec/Urban Fantasy series in dead tree and its so much wierd fun that it is going rather rapidly and likely the next one will follow.

Actually most the end really made up for most of them, even the what the fuck is this guy good for point of views got their moments of glory/purpose and Lilia, Ghrasia and Zezili I want to read more of right now.

What remains are generics like I don't see the point of going into too much detail with abuse and when throwing people into one grusome situation after another. Get it done and get to the good part. My tolerance for it is getting seriously low when not matched by some fun inbetween and my tolerance for it when aimed towards children and defenseless people is even lower.

I also likely have a lower bullshit/threshold of disbelief for really odd/unlikely cultures then I have for outright magic and heroics and the Mirror Empire doesn't have any cultures who didn't trigger that reflex at least initially.

Proofing over 203.5k words in nine days is murderous. I'm now doing some minor edits. It's NOT FUN AT ALL.

When you have that many words, try to edit them in alphabetical order instead of story order, for easy comparison. You'll spot most of the typos right off.

I assume this is publication order or the preferred reading order by gladstone

finished "The Metatemporal Detective" ... and I'm as confused as ever about Moorcock's stuff. It's another very "London" book. I'm not sure why Moorcock has this fixation on trams (streetcars), and people robbing them. This element also featured heavily in "War among the Angels" . I feel like I'm missing somme cultural context here.

Anyway, I didn't feel like getting into the last massive Eternal Champion omnibus ("Elric: the Moonbeam Roads"), so instead I tossed the next Kate Daniels, "Magic Shifts" as the new commute read.

At home, chugging along with "Fortunes of Africa", about 100 pages or so left, and now that we're into 20th century, I'm slightly more familiar with the subject matter, so shouldn't take too long to wrap it up.

Yesterday I blitzed through the rest of Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Signal to Noise. WOW. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but it was not what I got--and I loved it.

Yeah, my 1-5 listing (and as arranged in the omnibus) is the publication order. The titles tell you where the stories slot in chronologically.

I started DL. ICE ain't fooling around, right off the bat.

It was good to read HDM book 1 again though. It very much is a "most ages" book, like anyone who can read Narnia can read this, but it's so good in how it never talks down to kids, and its 'twists' are earned and genuinely compelling surprises.
