They won't hire Stover for more books, so fuck them.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Ha! Fair enough. I'd love to see another Stover book in the SW universe.

The comics from Marvel have given us some good stuff, as have a fair number of the books so far...but this one is purposely steering clear of anything really interesting....which is disappointing.
At this point, any book that more than touches on the main characters, either backstory/betweentimes or going forward, is going to be fluff unless it's specifically about events already alluded to in the movies, because the filmmakers don't want to have their options narrowed for future films.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I think this book argues with that notion.
It's filled with info about Leia!

I think it's time to read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series again. Probably just the main 10 books in publication order. I've been hankering for a Malazan fix for a while now...

Pffft. Whatever.
Anyway, Nick Harkaway's Gnomon came out today. I started reading it and it's awesome.

Finished LEGENDS OF LUKE SKYWALKER by Ken Liu...yeah no. Skip it. Of the 6 stories in the book, 2 are worth anything at all...and both of those are only "okay". No new canon info worth a damn. And Liu allowed himself to be SO Star Wars nostalgic to often...utilizing OT trilogy dialogue lines or notions to fill out portions...like in a cantina scene one person says to make sure to add plenty of blue powder for her milk, or when Luke says "she has good in her" about a wayward droid, or in one section where he's on a planet where they call The Force, The Tide....and he basically delivers Yoda's speech about "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate...to the dark side" from the PT....even though Luke has NEVER heard that damned speech.
Ugh.
SO disappointed.
This makes me question reading the Dandelion Dynasty series..if Liu can't even nail franchise-based YA....?

For what it's worth I think you would hate Grace of Kings. It's not for everyone.

The Great Ordeal: Sorweel's chapters with Serwe and her brother are weird. Like, yucky weird.

Depends on what you're expecting. Briar King loves it.
Grace of Kings is written in a flat sort of way, like The Iliad, and covers a lot of ground quickly.
I thought Liu's translation of The Three Body Problem was very good, although I liked Martinsen's translation of The Dark Forest as a book better. I'm not sure if u like it better because it's a better book or because of the translation. I have barely begun Death's End, although I like it.
I don't think I will continue on with the Grace of Kings series, but I totally see how some people love it.

Yes, but where his plotline goes is some of the most interesting and well written stuff in the book.

140 pages into His Dark Materials.
Loving the gradual unfolding of the world
Also caught this:
Was this a subtle allusion to a gay man? I am loving the clear symbolic significance of daemons and Dust.

I just started a reread of The Golden Compass! Gonna do the tril again, then read the novellas etc. which I've never read, then do the new book.
Also I read Annihilation. If I knew it was only 200 pages I would have done it a long time ago. Reminded me of home!

Yep, that's what that was.
