My Malazan re-read has reached Reaper's Gale. I have to say that TBH and so far Reaper's Gale I'm finding the irritations I had with them when reading them on release a lot less of an issue when taken in the context of the whole series read relatively quickly together.

Yes I felt the same the last time I did a reread. For example the last two, which dragged for me, flew by upon reread. And TTH (which I loved anyway) was just sublime. Definitely my favourite.

Done with the Malice another very nice book. Nearly put it down in the first quarter but when it got going it was captivating. Pretty sure The Seven will be the next book unless its opening chapters are horrendous which seem unlikely.

Ruin of Angels, the latest book in Max Gladstone's Craft sequence which just came out. As fun and inventive and full of great characters and awesome magic as ever.

Finihed The Traitor Baru Cormorant. I really liked the ending, and most of what went before was pretty good, so overall I'm looking forward to book 2 sometime next year or so.

Finished Saint's Blood by Sebastien De Castell. Loved it. I have to admit I am surprised that there is a fourth book as this is a very good ending by itself.

Started reading Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff. So far irs hilarious

I've started Daniel Abraham's "The Dragon's Path" on my Kindle...I'd been debating whether or not to buy it but then a few weeks ago it went on sale so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm only about a quarter of the way through and it's alright. I can't say as I'm blown away by it, but I don't actively dislike it either. So, we'll see.

Aside from that, I'm also doing a re-read of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, just because.

Finished up The Bonehunters this morning. Maybe over time it got lost in the awesomeness of the whole series, but how did i forget how great this book was?

Im really tempted to completely screw up my re-read and jump straight to Reapers Gale, just so i can stay with the 14th, but im going to suck it up and go back to Genebackis.

Onto GotM!

Thats pretty much it in my opinion. Its not amazing, its not boring, its just good. Pretty even keel throughout.

You're not going to be "blown away" by The Dragon's Path/The Dagger & Coin. I still love the series, but it's not high octane by any means.

Started the Seven and it certainly wasn't a slow start, right into awesome action more or less instantly. This series is damn fine.

Finished Midnight Riot. Loved it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Finished Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff. Very good light fantasy.

Finishing up Newman's The Malice. The first quarter or so of the book is slow. I feel like it doesn't pick up until Samael finds
Spoiler
It's by no means boring up til then; it's just not as good as the first book. That said, after the the first quarter, the quality rises back up to exceed that of the first book.

Massassi's interludes are a great peek into the strong worldbuilding. I look forward to each one.

And I just ordered book 3.

Sounds reasonable...I did a re-read where I only read a couple of characters storylines once its certainly a way to focus with all distractions cut out.

Still barely begun the Seven work conspires to keep me busy.

FUTURISTIC VIOLENCE AND FANCY SUITS, David (John Dies At the End) Wong.

As a brief light interlude between heavier fare... coming off Abercrombie's SHATTERED SEAS trilo with a need to kill time til the UNHOLY CONSULT earbook dls tomorrow.

It was not as funny, or as clever, as JOHN DIES, the characters not as engaging, the setting not as interesting... actually, the setting - Tabula Rasa, a desert city built in the 21st century by billionaires who wanted their own Vegas playground with less rules - had a lot of potential, but other than some trope-heavy tech and fun party scenes with not nearly as much drugs and alcohol as seems appropriate, it isn't truly developed... but the action verges on comic-book cinematic at times, the pace doesn't drag... overall i enjoyed and would recommend as a bit of entertainment.

Earbook narrator is good, gives the narrator a distinct voice, doe other voices well. A bit inconsistent at times which can make it unclear who is 'speaking' until the text identifies them. In an already ongoing conversation that's kind of weak, but it's not a frequent occurance.

I mentioned it in the dedthread, but SE's FIENDS OF NIGHTMARIA is damn funny, another solid B&KB adventure with a familiar supporting cast madly running around being chased by irritated demons, masturbating gods, and headless zombies. ...or was that masturbating demons, headless gods and masturbating zombies...? wait, no... it was...

Finished Tyrant's Throne. It was ok. Frankly the series should have ended with the third book.

Reading Miles Cameron's Red Knight. I like the world and a couple of PoVs, but frankly not the rest of the book.

I finished The Urth of the New Sun last night. I'm entirely of the opinion that the book isn't optional and just needs to be considered the 5th book in the New Sun cycle. It answers so many of the questions that were left at the end of Citadel of the Autarch. It honestly makes me want to go back an reread the main series with the developments that occured here in mind.

Next up I'm in the mood for some future-tech sci-fi, so I'm jumping into the last of the Jean le Flambuer books - The Causal Angel.

I suspect you will enjoy.

He is, but he gets better. His evolution through the series, as a cop/wizard/person, is part of its charm.
