You're welcome.

Also, what you think of the Fierce Gods sequel hook? I don't think the ending so far quite lived up to the excellent opening two books but I'd really wanna read more in this world, especially if he explores the hinted-at elements.

Anyway, I'm reading City of Miracles. Bout halfway through, great capper to the trilogy by the progress so far.

KINGS is great fun so far. A bit of a slow start for its premise, but when it gets going, damn, I'm laughing out loud at times.

Borne by Jeff Vandermeer. It's an excellent book that sadly fails to live up to his previous works. Or, so it felt reading it. At the same time, I'm left with a feeling that something went over my head, kind of like I feel whenever I finish a book by Murakami. I should read it again in a year or so.

Have any of you guys read it? What to you think the implications where in regards to what was left out of the retelling of the letter?

Not yet, but I keep seeing it at the store and I'm curious. And since I enjoyed Vandermeer's last outing, I'll hit it up eventually.

I finished up Neal Asher's Transformation trilogy. Wow. I was impressed how tightly the last book wrapped everything up. I am definitely reading more Polity books.

Also read Stephen R. Donaldson's novella "The King's Justice" which was pretty good. Outside a couple of standouts, I've never been too impressed with his shorter fiction. This one felt kind of undercooked, like, the story's all there, but there's thematic depth to his longer works that most of his shorter stuff feels lacking in. Also the present-tense third-person omniscient narrator felt like an odd choice.

Diving in to "The Augur's Gambit" (SRD's other new novella) next.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Started Sorceror of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson. I have no idea what the plot will be (I'm guessing small crew finds itself in deep trouble), but the writing so far is very engaging. Third-person limited perspective, and I'm really liking the protagonist's POV so far. Plus it's actually pretty short, so that's a nice change of pace.

I loved that book, so much that I bought a second copy so I could give it to my best friend as a birthday present. It has some parts which make it obvious that it's Wilson's first longer work, but I thought that story, characters, worldbuilding and writing more than made up for that for me, especially as it manages to be this good with such a small page count. Loved Demane's PoV. For now, I'm firmly aboard with anything that Wilson writes.

Also, since I was feeling nostalgic, I just finished a Russian cliche fantasy book full of silly elves, drunk dwarves and evil sorcerers which was much better than I thought it would be because the humor was right up my alley. I mean, who hasn't tried to sniff out some monster hunter by teleporting smoked dead crows into his lair? Sadly, there doesn't seem to be an English translation.

Finished "A blade of Black Steel"-- an incredibly fun read where almost nothing happens as far as the big plot is concerned. Until the end, where EVERYTHING happens.

Good writing, incredible pacing and a ton of humour mostly make up for the "nothing's happening" bits.

Next up for commute, I guess I'll try to finish up the Powder mage trilo with the last book. in that series.

Nearly done MOUNT CHAR...and I just want to say one thing. Steven is my SANITY. Honest to god...he's my total sanity while reading this book. LOL!

Also started QUEEN OF BLOOD by Sarah Beth Durst. So far it's great fantasy!

I enjoyed ABoBS. I also got a kick out of all the Metal references. I need to pick up the next book.

I'm glad you guys liked ABoBS more than I did. I dropped it halfway through because the humor stopped working for me, and that's pretty much all the book was.

Holy cow, "The Augur's Gambit" is fantastic so far. (I'm like 80% done.) If I had to complain, it'd be that SRD seems to be riffing on his earlier Mordant's Need more than a little, but it's still very much its own thing.

Making steady progress in my "Godsdoom" re-read, ever since I committed to reading at least a chapter a day.

Also, making decent progress with Autumn Republic . The author avoided having the main chars do something completely stupid that I feared would put totally put me off. So far things are clipping along nicely.

I felt the Mordant's Need vibe too, but it was indeed a good read.
