Started Sorceror of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson. I have no idea what the plot will be (I'm guessing small crew finds itself in deep trouble), but the writing so far is very engaging. Third-person limited perspective, and I'm really liking the protagonist's POV so far. Plus it's actually pretty short, so that's a nice change of pace.
I loved that book, so much that I bought a second copy so I could give it to my best friend as a birthday present. It has some parts which make it obvious that it's Wilson's first longer work, but I thought that story, characters, worldbuilding and writing more than made up for that for me, especially as it manages to be this good with such a small page count. Loved Demane's PoV. For now, I'm firmly aboard with anything that Wilson writes.
Also, since I was feeling nostalgic, I just finished a Russian cliche fantasy book full of silly elves, drunk dwarves and evil sorcerers which was much better than I thought it would be because the humor was right up my alley. I mean, who hasn't tried to sniff out some monster hunter by teleporting smoked dead crows into his lair? Sadly, there doesn't seem to be an English translation.
