Library at Mount Char is fanfuckingtastic.

Beautiful, gruesome, moving, and respectful of both small things and big things in their own ways.

Plus there's a terrifically smart lady, a confused plumber, and a murder machine in a tutu.

Easily one of the best things I have read in 2016

Anyone have any thoughts on the earbook?

So I finished CJ Cherryh's Downbelow Station - excellent book. I like this much better than Foreigner. Character development, action, politics, interesting aliens - great story!

Also finished Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time. I cannot recommend this enough. Beautiful sf,some excellent ideas, and a very epic storyline. The development and improvement of his writing over the early Shadows of the Apt books really shows.

Currently reading Iron Ship. The premise is fascinating

Fantastic. One of my favorite listens last year.

300-odd pages into "When the heavens fall" and it's finally starting to develop its own voice.

Before this point, it was an avalanche of now-standard epic fantasy tropes. Turner's put more care into his backgrounds than Sanderson's Stormlight so far, and having name-dropped something to do with ancient/Elder history he tends to bring it up again later to fill in some context, but it still feels like a B-list entry. Solid, but not remarkable or jaw-dropping.

So I finished Iron Ship by KM Mckinley.

A very very solid book. Lots of PoVs, fascinating world and mythologies. I like where she seems to be taking this series. The only thing I did not like was that the book was very set-uppy.

Currently reading Harmony Black by Craig Schafer. Like it so far.

Just finished Flame Bearer.
It seemed quite short I think, had only read one chapter before today and read the rest basically in an evening.
Good, not the best Uthred book by any means, but certainly my par for the course and very enjoyble.

Uthred will march again

Just finished Brandon's ALLOY OF LAW. Solid book, all the more impressive for being less epic than the first MISTBORN trilo, yet more engrossing for it. As usual, Michael Kramer's narration is flawless. Am heading straight into the next book.

Still enjoying Warren Ellis' NORMAL. ...in part because of lines like "Do you have your friend's email address? He had a very strange penis. It made me like women even more, but every now and then I like to check. Also he would make a very interesting medical study. Please tell no one.".

Just finished William Shatner's Leonard, his memoir about Nimoy. It feels a little self-serving at times, and he has a tendency to repeat himself on occasion, but it's compulsively readable, and is clearly written by a man working through his heartfelt memories of a dear, departed friend. It is, dare I say it... fascinating.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

Read the Elon Musk biography over Christmas (alongside my usual entertaining cheesy novels, John Grisham and the like) fascinating insight into the man, really complex and interesting dude.

I'm about 4/5ths through Charles Stross' the Nightmare Stacks. I am sort of grinding to a halt, I really like the scenario he is describing but I just don't give a shit about the characters or the fate of Britain. Also from the get go the ramifications and fallout of the story is predictable. I have been waiting for the author to throw a fast ball but so far it's just rolling down hill.

I have no idea where the series will go after this but I REALLY, REALLY WOULD LIKE a book with Bob again. Maybe Bob has grown to be a character that doesn't fit into the series formula any longer, but god damn I want a competent in the know computer necromancer.

I'm doing my reread of the entire series in preparation for the new books coming soon. I'm just about done with The Dragonbone Chair, and it's even better on a reread.

The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan. I never read Ryan's Bloodsong books - it didn't sound like fantasy to suit my tastes. TWF seems like it'll be right up my alley - corporate espionage in a world where dragon's blood gives its imbiber souped up powers? Yep, that'll do. Plus one of the viewpoint characters has the makings of an MMA fighter, so that should be fun too.

Yep.

While I liked Blood Song I absolutely loved the Waking Fire. Really looking forward to the next book

I'm about 8 days away from the new MS&T novella dropping on my doorstep. SO excited!
