You may consider backing out of Lies. Bk 1 is the best and they fall off with each one. Bk3 is a waste of the precious trees sacrificed to it.

I read the ebook and lament the wasted pixels.

Honestly Republic was more of a prank competition than anything else. Takes as just that, a light fun, read, its ok. Otherwise not.

For me, REPUBLIC reduced Lynch from a "buy it the day it comes out" to "see how it does a few months after it comes out and decide if it's worth eBooking...from the library". The drop in quality is THAT drastic.

It really seemed like he had a great premise - the election, the past relationship, Locke as vulnerable - and he left it at that, like he never tried to develop any of it at all, just made up a mediocre story.

I'm not into heist stories so I never tried Lynch. Seems to have saved me from a) waiting for another unfinished series, and b ) a disappointment at the drop of quality.

FWIW, I felt "Republic of Thieves" was quite good, until the last 20 pages or so, as Lynch tried to set up a "bigger picture" premise. That brought the book down from a 4.5 to 3.

The election story was basically what I'd expect a medieval election to be like. But then again, I've been exposed to medieval electoral tactics in the present time by following most Ukrainian elections, so a lot of that stuff seemed familiar and not in any way far-fetched or contrived.

For my own reading, I've finished Assassin's Apprenice in my commute. I thought it was quite good. I bought the next book already, but I'll hold off starting it yet. I think next for the commute i'll try Belcher's "Six-Gun Tarot"

At home, I haven't had a chance to get past the prologue for "War of the Flowers" due to overall busyness and life.

That next Fitz bk you got is one of the best bks I've read. I loved that one so damn much.

I agree to a certain degree. Royal Assassin was the best, imo, of those books written from Fitz's PoV that I've read, though far from being among the best books I've read overall.

Finished Fifth Season. An absolutely spectacular book. Great worldbuilding, great storytelling.

More progress in Outlander 2. Things are getting dark and murky.

Speaking of Outlander....Book 4, after a bit of a weird lull in the story we are now back on track and plenty of things are happening!

Can anyone recommend the best series out right now apart from Malazan, GRRM, Bakker? Those are the three I've enjoyed the most. Looking for something else to start. Didn't like Abercrombie.

Do you mean darkish fantasy?

Try Richard Morgan's Land Fit for Heroes.

Epic but lighter - Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Gunpowder - Django Wexler, Brian McClellan

Try the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks, the Ancillary series by Ann Leckie, and/or Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.
