the sea came in at midnight - steve erikson (the other one). I'm really impressed with it so far. reminds me of haruki murakami for some reason i've yet to put my finger on, except darker and less oddball.

Just finished Brian Ruckley's WINTERBIRTH, which has to be one of this year's finest debuts.

Fans of GRRM and dark and gritty fantasy tales should enjoy this one. Not similar to GRRM in terms of story, but very similar in style and tone.

Add this one to your Christmas present list!

Check the blog for the full review. . .

Thanks for the idea, Pat!

I'm nearly finished with Erikson's "Deadhouse Gates" and then heading into "Memories of Ice."

Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglass Adams..
Not as sciency as I thought it may have been, more humour focused but still a good light read.

also reading;
Guns Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond
Explains how the last 13,000 years of civilisation occurred and how/why. Quite interesting too..

Humey.. just dropping in for now..

Rereading The Shadow Rising from Robert Jordan, and reading The Scar from China Mieville. That last one I'm having trouble getting into.

Just finished reading the latest Fruits Basket - it seems the series is coming to a close, everything is boiling down to Tohru and the curse. I can't wait to see what happens ;)

Lies of LL and loving it!
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

Just finished "The Scar" by that China fellow.

What a piece of shit.

I liked "Perdido Street Station" but this one was just awful.

Really, RR? Didn't like 'The Scar'? Damn, that's probably my favourite Mieville book, I thought it was brilliant. Different strokes I guess...

Re-reading MoI. Although, highly recommend 'Freakenomics' to everyone. Great read.

I would second Freakonomics, although at times I found it a tad self indulgent (what with those excerpts at the start of every chapter telling you how great the author is). Still, an interesting read.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.
