Aes sedai are, in the main, a bunch of stuck up bitches with the character depth of a puddle.
My bad on the orgy, its the next book where min strips of for egwene and then they lather each other up with butter whilst rand pulls their hair.

Finished FoD re-read. Gonna post up a thread in FoL forum a bit later to discuss.
still not sure how Chapters is solving my FoL pre-order conundrum. Don't want to start anything "serious" before FoL arrives. I think I'll do a couple of standalones. Starting with Gaiman's "Neverwhere"
Maark, when you're looking for more grimdark, you need to check out "Dusk" by Tim Lebbon.

I am, as part of an experiment, reading Virginia Woolf's Orlando. About 30% into the book, and so far, its ok, I guess? Not very impressed. Plus the prose is far too florid for my liking
Also halfway into Heretics of Dune, the book is far more entertaining than God Emperor. Will post in the dedthread later

Just finished Meluch's Merrimack #1 - holy shit, what an ending. Definitely going on to book #2.
Also, 14 hrs into Reality Dysfunction. I'm not able to give it my full attention so I'm definitely a little lost but still, I'm enjoying it.
Also just finished Contact, Invasion #2 by Sean Platt - not very good but I still got the 3rd, hoping it improves.

Yeah Hamilton is pretty hefty. Not quite as big a cast as Erikson obviously but still requires a bit of focus.

Back into the Discworld with WITCHES ABROAD...which so far is typical Terry Pratchett excellence!

Enjoy! This is the book that finally sold me on the Witches.
For myself, I realized I'm spreading myself a bit too thin right now reading wise. I've decided to buckle down and focus on The Spider's War by Abraham and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Clark on audio.
Essentially, this means I'm shelving Midnight Riot by Aaronovich as well as Purge of Ashes. I've really enjoyed what I was able to get through of PoA but I'm going to wait for a physical copy. The tiny little phone screen just doesn't give it justice.

Midnight Riot on audio is one of my all time favorites, well that and Moon Over Soho. I love Kobna-Holdbrook Smith. He's one of my favorite narrators.

Hmm. I might have to switch that one to audio at some point then. I got the first one for $2 for my kobo so I've been reading it in digital so far. I just decided I want to put The Dagger and the Coin to rest before I start a new series, and started JS&MN since it's been on my trp for about 6 years now.

They are huge books and seem to have quite a few in series. I looked at the newest HC today and the world map is quite big. Looks like an archipelago world. Hopefully someone here will answer if it's good or not. I've never read him.
Hang on, I do know about Weber in general. I have read his Honorverse.
Weber focusses on military stuff. Battles, tactics, strategies. Also on military tech development. The military aspect is his IMO best and strongest point.
He also is interested in religion and religion in a modernising world. He writes pretty strong female characters and most of his books pass the Bechdel test.
Webers weakness is his tendency towards bloat. He has never quite figured out how to integrate infodumps and so they come in the form og huge inner monologues. Also he does not write politics properly as the bad guys are truly bad, as in totally and utterly evil, while the good guys are angelic. This is also where he writes in Mary Sue characters.
Now this is what I got from the military Sci-fi Honorverse. Safehold has a different premise but probably have a lot of military elements. I have found that Weber is a great author for me to fulfil my military fetish through.

I ll wait till you read bk 1 before I buy it. The blurb sounds good. I was kinda blown away at the scale of world map.
You googled the world map?
I actually think I have a lot of these books. I got them from someone... I really have to keep better track of these things. I am pretty sure I kept them, but I have to look

No I was at store and looked at I guess the latest HC 2015. It was a brick. The map isn't neat but words where scrawled all over. You could tell the world is insanely huge
Man, you should see the map for the Half-Continent in DM Cornish's Monster Blood Tattoo books. The entire trilogy, in which the protagonist spends a lot of time travelling, takes place in between or in an area just adjacent to the three dots on the river in roughly the middle-bottom of the map, which you can see if you zoom in. And looking for that map I just found out that this is only a small part of the world the author has sketched out.
Man, it's taking a while (apart from a duology of novellas that haven't apparently been released outside of Australia) but I can't wait to see more of this author.

Is David Webern Safehold set any good?
It is very good.
However it is military fiction more about a world war and its main leaders/players then it is a story about a couple of characters having adventures or something more normal. It is all about strategy, weapon development, battles and religion. If your in for a SF what if book mostly about military matters it is brilliant. If your looking for brilliant characters, vivid descriptions and a gripping narrative you get some of it but there are better authors then Weber for that stuff.
Finished up A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab and I find these books very engaging not really all that complicated but pretty damn good at the rest. On to Visitor by CJ Cherryh if it is anywhere near the last offering in the foreigner universe it will be a brilliant read.

Finished reading Starfish (Rifters 1).
A )That ending was unexpected.
B ) This was so well written, I could actually feel my ears pop when he was describing underwater pressures.
C ) Every time I finish a Peter Watts book, I get all nihilistic and depressed for a month, which is sad because I love the books themselves but I really cannot see a way out of the hellish future he describes.
