Finished Moorcock's Final Programme.

A very interesting book and while I don't think I have ever read anything quite like this, some aspects reminded me of Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels.

You said you're looking into H.G. Wells, right? You may find some parallels.

I like how even though I haven't yet read Dacner's Lament, I know I can click that spoiler because of who posted it.

Now onto Emperor of Thorns, on my reread following Liars Key.

This trilogy has been as good of not even better a second time around.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

About 110 pages into my FoD ReRead. I'm finding it so enjoyable to re-read! It's doing the job of getting me even more amped for FoL!

I'm considering doing that as I can't remember anything about FoD...

I'm rereading it too and enjoying it as well.

I am of the opinion that WoT would be vastly improved by Rand blasting more things

Yes I am reading this 800+ monster collection of complete short stories by Wells. Only read three but they are so very entertaining.

Something I forgot to mention, I found some atmospheric similarities between Cornelius and Warren Ellis' Supergod comic series. You should check them out.

Based on the discussion in the "Books you Dislike" thread I have gone from Pawn of Prophecy to Queen of Sorcery. I'm moderately ashamed but I am really enjoying myself.

Currently rereading the Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman. Truly brilliant!

Me too! My first AOL screen name was GoodDurnik. It was before they upped the character limit so I couldn't even choose GoodmanDurnik. I've got lots of problems with the series (esp how it deals with race) but I think there's generally good YA storytelling. Also I really like the idea (and in fact the execution) of the autobio books by Polgara and Belgarath. The dual perspective on lived history was neat. But it does add pretty conveniently (and validly) to the old joke about Eddings telling one story over and over.

I do agree w/ whoever said in the other thread that the Sparhawk books were lousy.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

You mean Belgariad 2: Electric Boogaloo?

And yes, the casual racism on every page is both hilarious and terrifying. "Oh you come from [country]? You must be [list of racial traits]!"

Man, the Sparhawk books didn't even remind me of the Belgariad besides being quest fantasy (though tbh I remember very little about them, and I only read the first trilogy). At the time it reminded me of a child's conception of fantasy toughguys. Like they don't have differences in personality so much as outward signifiers. Like when a kid draws a team, and one guy has normal armor, one guy has dark armor with spikes, one guy has an eyepatch, one guy has a mohawk and tattoos. That's the depth of character.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

You guys think the Sparhawk books were bad, you should be so glad you never read The Dreamers.
