April I think

So is Canadaland. my copy is preordered and it's supposed to be delivered to my local store for pickup on April 19th.

Chaptersindigo apparently has it now in ebook, next week in hb, amazon.com too... I think that both changed their street dates at like 11:30pm on Feb 24... not that I'm too bothered paying maybe an extra dollar on exchange via amazon.uk to get it Feb 25, but the wtf is strong this time.

...makes me nostalgic for the olde days when I had to hunt down Canada Post employees to get my books...

I ordered off Book Depository last night, and I think it was $28CDN total. So not too bad really. And it's already on its way to me as we speak. Worth the extra few coins to be honest.

Finished the "enclaves" spin-off book. Not bad, a decent post-apoc cyberpunky mashup. Governments, corporations, mercs, ancient spirit-magics, and a cool prize for all involved to fight for. The ending is open-ended for a possible sequel? (and the wiki tells me that, Tochinov did write another novel in that universe). It was a decent commute-read brain-distraction.

Personal complaint is that the Russian author in his 2012 book took a few unnecessary (but totally expected) digs at Ukraine, but it was subtle enough so as not to cause me to throw the book in the trash as soon as I got home. Overall, Panov remains the best Russian urban fantasy or cyberpunk author I found, and "enclaves" is the only thing I've seen that tries for that wonderful shadowrun-y mashup experience, so more "Enclaves" is always a good thing. Next time I find myself in a Russian bookstore, I'd have to check out any others.

Next in my commute read I'll probably go back to Moorcock.

Finished Patrick Weekes' Palace Job, its a fun read, but best not taken too seriously.

I am now going to start the Broken Empire series by Mark Lawrence.

Just over halfway done with Bands and I must say this is easily my least fav Alloy. It's so slow compared to other 2!

How is it slower than no. 2? The hotel part was hilarious

Still forcing my way through TWOK. Page 1000 out of 1125 and it's finally picking up - two of the characters are no longer Shinji Ikari.

After this I have book 2 of Crown of Stars lined up.

Just started reading Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmell. It's the first of his books that I've ever read, though I haven't heard a single bad thing about him as an author I didn't want to start his Drenai series just yet so decided to give his stand alone works a look. I'm only a few chapters in but loving it so far!

Knights is a Drenai story tho. It's standalone within that series, but so are most of them aside from a very loose reading order.
Dark Moon is another good standalone of his.

Ah, didn't know that. Wonder why it's not listed as such on his wiki page? Anyway, in short order I've read Knights of Dark Renown, Morningstar and Dark Moon. Currently reading Echoes of the Great Song. Really liking David Gemmell a lot and will probably dive into his Drenai series once I've finished a few more standalones :p

Is Knights of Dark Renown really a Drenai book? I don't think I've read it (I read a lot of his books so long ago that I'm not always sure which ones I did and which ones I didn't), but there's no hint of it in the blurb or anything and the characters and myths mentioned there aren't part of the usual Drenai mythos.

Funny; I'm just reading Legend- another one of those not-sure books for me, I was convinced I'd read it years and years ago but now that I've gone back to it I'm not sure if I did or if I just combined references to it in later-set tales with the battle of Skeln Pass which iirc is in the Druss prequel which I know I have read.

Anyway, I think you might find it a little awkward going back to Legend and Waylander (which i re/read a few months back) in particular after having read some of his later books, they're books where he's clearly still developing his writing style. But not so much so that I think you wouldn't enjoy them, and the later books in the Drenai saga are excellent. It's interesting to see him develop as a writer actually.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Fairly sure KNIGHTS is Drenai, but it's subtle... Less about the race than the world.I read them all utterly out of order and didn't have any problems, tho I do think hitting LEGEND and WAYLANDER first makes it clearer. Still, Gemmel was skilled at keeping his books self contained.
ECHOES OF THE GREAT SONG is his only book I disliked. Virtually everything in it theme, character and plait wise had already appeared in other books. He tried a different writing style with it and it didn't work for me as well.

Actually, I might treat myself to the new ICE, if the prICE is right.

Yeah, I finished Dancer's lament pretty much in one sitting yesterday. ICE's best by far in my opinion. He finally seems to have learned how to do a great ending, and the general pacing from start to finish is excellent.

I had really missed that Malazan experience. I probably enjoyed this one more than Forge of Darkness.

That pretty much matches the consensus I've read from other people on it. Looks like I know what my lunch will be spent doing!

From what I've read since, yes it is part of the Drenai series in so much as it's set in the same world. It's very loosely followed up by Morningstar, but there are only 2 slight references to Knights of Dark Renown, and from what I could gather it's set about a thousand years after Knights; Legend seems to be set many hundreds of years later again.

As I wait for DANCER'S LAMENT to arrive, I started A FOREIGN COUNTRY by Charles Cumming, which seems to be a pretty pacey British MI6 thriller. Enjoying it, even though I don't normally read spy fiction.

I think the last spy novel I read was something by Frederick Forsyth. I really should try some new ones, trouble is everytime I make an attempt I think how it could be improved by adding dragons, cussers and mages

I had these exact thoughts when I started this. I think a SMALL part of me is at LEAST expecting a supernatural angle...which I fear may not come. LOL
