How do y'all have the book? Release date is May 31st.

That's the Tor (US) edition.

The Bantam/Transworld edition (Canada/UK) was released today.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

I can't help but think that a three month delay for US release is ridiculous.

Currently reading Cyclonopedia: Complicity With Anonymous Materials by Reza Nagarestani; which is probably the most batshit insane book I've started since I first cracked open House of Leaves all those years ago. This thing absolutely defies any kind of rational categorisation I can think of; it's hard to even state whether I think it's a good or bad book because I'm not sure that either of those words could be sensibly, or meaningfully, applied to it.

The blurb describes the book as a piece of "theory-fiction" on the Middle East. The essential thrust, so far, appears to be that the Middle East is in toto alive on a bunch of different conceptual levels and it's a kind of Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination that secretes oil that it uses to lubricate its entry into the political, cultural and economic (probably memetic too) body politic of the rest of the planet with a view to parasitising it and transforming it into a desert.

I'm not sure who on earth I would ever consider recommending this to, primarily because it's absolutely chock-full of the kind of postmodern Critical Theory bollocks that I find both completely hilarious and extremely irritating in pretty much equal measure. It's certainly an experience of some kind, though.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Although I probably should have guessed that this would be like catnip to you, Morgy. Don't say you weren't warned.

That I posted no more than a minute following you should by no means be taken as a sign that I spend my thursday nights waiting patiently for signs of your presence.

Kindle! The joys of Kindle! Also I think its hilarious that Amazon.in is ahead of Amazon.com!

Funnily enough, Fall of Light has an April 21st release date, but the paperback will be in stock from April 13th. I am debating about what to do

Finished Fall of Light, Dancer's Lament with an all night marathon.

I will hold off on a review as lots of people are reading or waiting but suffice to say I think ICE really did a great job. He captures the personalities of the main duo nicely, but the part I liked best was the focussed nature of the story. No travelogue, less bloat.

Amazon.in tells me that they will have it in stock by the 13th of April and I can get the ebook on the 21st. Wondering which one to order. Not much of a price difference.

I need this. And sounds like a perfect present for someone I know. She gave me House of Leaves, I need something good to retaliate.

Still can't get into any books (PG, Gone-Away World is on my radar, but no stores have it near me)...so I've been doing Peter Tomasi and Pat Gleason's run on BATMAN & ROBIN, which is solid.

Chaptersindigo apparently has it now in ebook, next week in hb, amazon.com too... I think that both changed their street dates at like 11:30pm on Feb 24... not that I'm too bothered paying maybe an extra dollar on exchange via amazon.uk to get it Feb 25, but the wtf is strong this time.

...makes me nostalgic for the olde days when I had to hunt down Canada Post employees to get my books...

Weird, and I'll be a tad miffed if true and I still gotta wait till mid-April. Given I still need to re-read FoD, I won't be too upset, probably.
