Finished The Dread Wurm by Miles Cameron. Great addition to the series and looking forward to the final volume next year. The author certainly seems to know his stuff when it comes to medieval armor, weapons, fighting, etc. Also cool that he writes locations based on the general area where I live (Adirondack Mountains of New York).

Miles Cameron is also Christian Cameron, author of historical fiction and is a "passionate reenactor." He and Mary Gentle (see Ash: a Secret History) are very accurate as in their martial authenticity - or so I've read as I personally haven't a clue.

And, yeah, loved the Dread Wyrm and am looking forward to the next (last?) in the series.

*just looked it up and Wiki says book four is Plague of Swords and book five is the Fall of Dragons and two shorts are planned.

NEMESIS GAMES done. Total win of a story. Loved it.
Resuming NIGHTLIFE in earbook, and trying Lynch's REPUBLIC OF THEIVES.
Trying bcs while I enjoyed LIES I really didn't think much of RED, and if this is more the latter than the former, I'm inclined to read something else. I'm trying to be more draconian with my TRPs these days.
...actually that goes for NIGHTLIFE too.

I think one of my main issues with Republic was how childish the plans to win the election were. It didn't paint a picture of political masterminds, but rather competitors for the leadership of a student council.

Well, Kate Elliott quickly took a turn for the very dark.

It will continue to grind you down with such stuff for another few books, so prepare if your going ahead.

As someone who is familiar with Oblivionized, I am prepared for the grind, I long for the grind, I submit myself to the grind.

It's unforgiving, and as someone who tries to be as unforgiving as possible in my own work, I appreciate it in books a good deal.

I got sidetracked, but got back into Gene Wolfe today. About 17 chapters into Citadel and this book is my favourite so far.

Very cool. I'm willing to bet his historical fiction is good based on his fantasy series. Maybe I'll pick a few up and report back.

Night Watch by Lukyanenko. I picked up the 3 book set (digital) from Amazon, so it is taking me a while.

Coolio. I'm set to start Chapter 13 ("Foila's Story"), which is easily my favorite of the all tales Severian relates. Just beautiful.

May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Finished Tarkin. Thought it was okay - probably not the best choice for me to return to SW novels after so long away, though.

Currently reading The Aylesford Skull by James P Blaylock. Quite enjoying it at the moment.

Got to the 3rd story in The Night Watch and I'm just not feeling it. Picked up The Air War (Shadows of the Apt bk 8). Glad to see the Kindle version is available again. Time to knock this series out.

I finished two books today, Lords and Ladies by Sir Terry and Dead Beat by Butcher. Both of these were great books and both had me laughing quite a bit. I'm pretty sure Nanny Ogg is my favorite Discworld character, and most of you know the awesome end of Dead Beat.

Next up is Thirteen by Richard K Morgan on audio, and Ando got me interested in finishing The Book of the New Sun with Sword and Citadel.

Oooh! Thirte3n on audio is one of my favorites of all time. So freak'n good. I'm tempted to listen to it again here soon. However, I think his next book is either a sequel to it of sorts or in the same vain, so I may wait for it.

I think it's a sequel. It's same world at least from what I remember reading.

Edit: Also, I partly grabbed Thirte3n because I noticed Simon Vance was narrating, and I really enjoyed his work on the Dune books.

After looking at Sword and Citadel I've realized that it's been too long since I've read the first two parts of New Sun. So Shadow and Claw it is...

If you're talking about Crown of Stars, really the first book itself is most of the slog. After that, book 2 has its fits but goes really dark, and then it's pretty slog-free imo.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
