Miles Cameron is also Christian Cameron, author of historical fiction and is a "passionate reenactor." He and Mary Gentle (see Ash: a Secret History) are very accurate as in their martial authenticity - or so I've read as I personally haven't a clue.

And, yeah, loved the Dread Wyrm and am looking forward to the next (last?) in the series.

*just looked it up and Wiki says book four is Plague of Swords and book five is the Fall of Dragons and two shorts are planned.

I think one of my main issues with Republic was how childish the plans to win the election were. It didn't paint a picture of political masterminds, but rather competitors for the leadership of a student council.

I got sidetracked, but got back into Gene Wolfe today. About 17 chapters into Citadel and this book is my favourite so far.

Very cool. I'm willing to bet his historical fiction is good based on his fantasy series. Maybe I'll pick a few up and report back.

Coolio. I'm set to start Chapter 13 ("Foila's Story"), which is easily my favorite of the all tales Severian relates. Just beautiful.

I finished two books today, Lords and Ladies by Sir Terry and Dead Beat by Butcher. Both of these were great books and both had me laughing quite a bit. I'm pretty sure Nanny Ogg is my favorite Discworld character, and most of you know the awesome end of Dead Beat.

Next up is Thirteen by Richard K Morgan on audio, and Ando got me interested in finishing The Book of the New Sun with Sword and Citadel.

I think it's a sequel. It's same world at least from what I remember reading.

Edit: Also, I partly grabbed Thirte3n because I noticed Simon Vance was narrating, and I really enjoyed his work on the Dune books.

If you're talking about Crown of Stars, really the first book itself is most of the slog. After that, book 2 has its fits but goes really dark, and then it's pretty slog-free imo.
