Finished WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE A NOVEL, in earbook, comments in the ded thread but overall good fun.
Now at long last starting READY PLAYER ONE also in earbook. Liking so far.
In ebook, was enjoying Stirling's CONQUISTADOR but got distracted by this...

...which is surprisingly enjoyable for an anthology. Also, free. Worth a look.

Holy Hell!! You're going to freak'n love love RPOne on earbook. I'd thought you'd read it before. Man, you're in for a treat.

I left Daggerspell at work over the weekend, so I started rereading Edding's The Diamond Throne. I think Butcher, Gemmell, and Eddings are my favorite brain candy authors.

While thinking it's got some interesting ideas, and some funny deadpan humour...the book (the portion I tried) AND the podcast just served to piss me off with me shouting "Stop being so calm! There's fucking weird shit going on, why are you so CALM!!?!"
It feels like it wants to be Gaiman's short story SHOGGOTH'S OLD PECULIAR (one of my faves!), but it doesn't succeed.

Just got The Slow Regard of Silent Things paperback! I feel like I've been waiting to read this for years. I also didn't realize it was a novella.

Because Night Vale, which is actually one of the things the book explains. Sort of.
It's a running theme in the podcasts.... Night Vale is not normal. The people who live in Night vale are not normal. Fucking weird shit IS normal for Night Vale and it has to be some serious A-grade over the top and escalating level weird to break their calm.
Which is not to say it's going to work for every reader/listener. At least not until the subliminal reprogramming sinks in and then you dont care and/or drink to forget All Hail The GlowCloud.
I do so love that Gaiman story, btw.

Indeed, me too. One of my faves...
And nothing is better than him reading it himself with all the inflections he intended.

Soon finished with the Ex-Heroes series but so far not sure I like the premise of the fourth one even thought it is a very entertaining book, any competent gang of apocalypse survivors would have
He really is a great character.
One of the best newer series around as well, very happen when the series was extended to five books.

Urgh I really wanna read Dread Wyrm but I forgot to pre-order it and when it came out the price jumped up, so I'm gonna hang back until I finish at least some of the books I already have.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Powering through Moorcock's "Dancers at the End of Time" as my commute read. I strongly agree that he's much better at writing sci-fi than fantasy--"Nomad of the Time Streams", "End of Time" and "Ice Schooner" are WAY better than "Kane of Old Mars", "Corum" and "Hawkmoon" stuff. Haven't hit Elric yet, but that's my opinion so far. Expecting to finish second story by this weekend. May dive straight into "Elric" then
At home, re-reading DoD, 1-2 chapters a night... exquisite, just like the first time.
