Still working my way through Blood and Bone. Saeng just tattooed old man moon's cheek. I'm not sure I'm digging the fantasy treaty on the central american creation myth.

The Endymion books are fine, but they don't live up to the earlier duo. Still some fascinating stuff in there, though.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

The most hated ex-president in US history

Not actually true.

He's probably the most casually dismissed in the 20th century, but much more bilious hate was/is reserved for many others in US presidential history. Some deserved to be hated that much and some didn't.

Seconded. If you like the Hyperion universe, read the Endymion books.

I'll third the recco to read the Endymion duology as well. Not as good as the Hyperion duology to be fair, but plenty to enjoy, especially if you enjoyed the first 2.

It's really sad that no-one has managed to bring HYPERION to either the big or small screen. There are so many 'Holy Shit' moments in those first 2 books that I'd love to see brought to life on the screen.
He's made a tidy sum from just having the books optioned to be made into a film several times already, and there were whispers that a TV series could be a possibility. But you'd need an awesome budget.

Finished up Deathless and found it a strange read, often brilliant and evoking strong emotions and at other times rather poor. It was interesting reading something so deeply entrenched in russian mythology/society and many scenes are hillarious parody of the dark/grim stuff during the soviet times but I felt they fit rather ill with other extremely grim parts of the book.

Also finished up my re-read of Instrumentalities of Night and enjoyed it a lot, easily Cook at his best.

Started into my latest dose of Katestacy with the 6th book, MAGIC RISES and only 50 pages in and we're already wonderfully knee deep in the magic shapeshifter shit...and it's awesome. This is my vacation read (along with Hickman's NEW AVENGERS comic run) and it should be a solid cruise-ship choice.

I am reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons at the moment. Interesting stuff. Time debt, time travel, space travel, space Muslims, narration inside narration. Good sci-fi fluff. Besides, I've never seen any writer combine the words "steel" and "vagina". Tell me more, Mr. Simmons.Posted Image

Hyperion is awesome. The duology is some of the best stuff I have read.

I really liked it and also the 2nd one. Was warned off the Endymion books though.

Good to know. I bought book 1 when I was reading Commonwealth just to have enough $ to get free shipping.

So conflicted on this... HYPERION (both) was a formatively epic book in my reading history, but among most people i trust ENDYMION was universally slammed.
Suspect at some point I'll attempt a Hyperion reread and see if it carries me into the sequel.

Yes I'm still alive. No thanks to Quick Tidal and company. Over the last couple of weeks I have read all of the Kate Daniels books and pre ordered the one that comes out on the 4th August. Oh my God. I want more and I want it now. The only cringe worthy bits are the sex scenes haha and I gloss over them.

There's only so many places I want to see clitoris written down. In fact I can't think of any.

Yet the series is fantastic. It has everything I want in my fantasy books. I could not put down. I love the world, I love the history and how she is so knowledgeable. I love the weapons, the creatures, the characters.

She holds nothing back either. So good.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

Sorry Not sorry. :headbang:

I'm on book 6 and it's excellent. I'm glad to know that the Katestacy has caught on here at the boards, and that you have so ravenously enjoyed it!

I highly recommend this series.

On the urban fantasy side these days i myself have Jacka's ALEX VERUS, Aaronovich's PETER GRANT, Carey's FELIX CASTOR, Grossman's MAGICIANS trilo ...and the first ten books of Hamilton's EXECUTIONER series but dear god go no further. Opinions vary on Hearne's IRON DRUID.... i liked some parts (Jesus, Celtic, Native American mythology), skimmed/skipped others (vampires, werewolves, Norse yawn).

Abyss, you and I both know this is all your fault for reading that Kate Daniels short story way back when...which prompted me to read the series...which prompted the recent influx of forumites also taking the Katestacy plunge.

Really it's all your fault to begin with, so you may as well just get on board.
