Finished Tregillis' The Mechanical a good if somewhat predicaable read. The imagination and world is good, but....not the best.

Currently reading Balbrowling's second, The Silkworm, but might also intersperse it with the third Col Buchanan, The Black Dream, as it's finally come out and I've been waiting for it for aaaaaaages.

I have one story left in Gaiman's newest short story collection Trigger Warning. It has been been a hell of a ride so far and A Calender of Tales and The Sleeper and the Spindle are both absolutely fantastic. The last story Black Dog appears to be a Shadow story, which is never a bad thing.

Next up for me is a challenge read: Only Revolutions by Mark Z Danielewski.

I finished Pevel's The Alchemist in the Shadows over lunch. Ahhh...swashbuckling and dragons, does it get any better? Now I just need to wait for book 3's translation to be published in ebook format.

At times, that's an improvement to the dunderheaded things going on there.

I'm deep into the CJ Cherryh Foreigner series. I'm on Intruder now and I'm enjoying it, although a few things pop up once I started thinking about the series as a whole.

I think she recaps too much. It's getting to the point where 10% of Intruder is two characters recapping the last several books at least three times each. Not sure why she's doing that twelve books into the series.

Based on books 1 and 2, I'd say yes. I don't think the dialog is as good as Dumas and Brust, but if you love the Musketeer/Swashbuckling genre you'll enjoy the books.

One of my favorite quotes came from the Cardinal's Blades.

Out of curiousity, what does go on there? I just skim occasionally, but I make it a rule to spend as little time in FB as possible

About 70% into Red Rising and I like it. A bit Hunger Gamesy in flavour, but overall I think the scope and characterisation is better. I stopped at a major turning point, so eager to see how it turns out

Lots of fun and games and tons of spoilers, if you are not careful you will step in a pile of FB spoilers and then get them all over your hands trying to clean them off.

I enjoy the witty banter that goes on there, especially with the late night possibly drunk crew.

Finished Red Rising. A good book with a solid ending. Will pick up the sequel later.

Now considering starting Ketty Jay. Am I correct in thinking many here consider this book to be brilliant?

Currently going through Heir to the Jedi and it seems decidedly unimpressive probably my first and last new star wars universe book, was expecting better from Hearne who is usually a lot more entertaining.

Brilliant might be too generous but they are very entertaining and fairly good
