All this Newton chatter reminded me... has anybody read J Gregory Keyes Empire of Unreason series? 1st book is Newton's Cannon. Its about how 17th and 18th century scientists like Newton and Ben Franklin invented WMDs and blew stuff up. Also angels.

Finally took some time to read the first book of The Mongoliad ... not bad as far as alt-history goes.

Need to think what I'll read next. I find my reading time rather limited these days though.

The only other complaint I have so far is minimal:

Finished Patrick Lee's Runner. Best thriller I've read in ages. A bit more mainstream than the Breach books, perhaps, but just as much fun. I can't remember the last time I read such a fast-paced book. They have to make a film out of it, surely??

Now starting on Alastair Reynolds' Galactic North.

Finished Corey's CIBOLA BURN.

Eh.

It's alright, but is probably my least favoruite, because I don't think it knows what it wants to be in the end. It's a little scatterbrained as far as a narrative. It's good, not great. I like the overall themes they are beginning to explore, but it's cumbersome getting there.

Started Kristen Britain's FIRST RIDER'S CALL. I was only lukewarm about the first book GREEN RIDER, but there was enough there for me to want to give the sequel a chance...and it's already better. So here's hoping it stays that way.

The TRP is as massive as ever, but post ASSAIL (including selective reread) i can't quite settle on anything... hitting the Marvel Meth (Marvel Unlimited App) until something clicks... leaning sci fi with the next LOST FLEET series but the KETTY JAY books have been at the top of the stack for so long... argh.

I should say I'm closing in on the halfway point of Jeff Salyards' Veil of the Deserters. It's good. Folks looking for a new military fantasy series should pick it up along with Scourge of the Betrayer (book one).
