On the audio front Cronin's THE PASSAGE is dragging a bit. I like the world he's created and the man can weave a story very nicely, but i don't need every minor detail of every minor character who even passes thru the narrative, and it becomes a bit tedious at times when you can't skim.

I listened to about 18 hours of it or so. When part two started, I realized I just didn't care anymore so I quit. 36 hours is a hard listen unless it's something really captivating.

Seriously!
...he's so obsessed with the minutae of each character's life that you forget you're listening to an apocalyptic vampire story and wonder when it became Days Of Our Lives....

I am reading the absolutely-awesome-bestseller The Way of Shadows by renowned and prestigious author Brent Weeks, who has taken over half the forum but is now trying to hide behind completely ordinary names.
It's actually pretty interesting though not in any way groundbreaking.

Night Angel is okay. I've found Lightbringer to be much more enjoyable. :p

I just finished The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. I had started this a few years back and it just didn't click for whatever reason and I put it down. I started from the beginning and this time I really liked it. I was impressed with his world-building and imagination. I recall reading in one of the forums that this series doesn't really get good until book six or so. So, I guess it's a good sign that I liked one of what's considered to be the weaker books.

I'd agree with the fact that the series improves as it goes on, though sometimes his humour can be rather hit and miss IMO. Glad you enjoyed CoM - have you seen the TV adaptation?

I'm currently reading the first volume of Michael J Sullivan's The Riyria Revelations. I've had the first two volumes on my shelf for years and have really been looking forward to reading them. So far I'm a little bit disappointed - it's good, but not amazing.

I have not. I recalled that there was one, but unfortunately it is not on Netflix anymore.

Finished Staveley's THE EMPEROR'S BLADES. Great stuff throughout, and easily one of the strongest debuts of 2014 so far.

Back into Gaunt's Ghosts with Book 9 HIS LAST COMMAND by Abnett. What can I say? Only 6 chapters in and it's already the kickass storytelling I've come to expect from Dan.

In the midst of rereading Bleak House by Charles Dickens. One of my absolute favourites by him, and so incredibly deep, not to mention witty.

I've got that on my tablet, but haven't reached the point where I feel up to the challenge laying down the heavy Dickens.

It's Sherlock Holmes today.

Anybody want to comment on if I should read Alloy of Law if I haven't finished Book 2 & 3 of the Mistborn Trilogy?

So, I'm about 150 pages away from finishing Blood Song. I'm pre-ordering Tower Lord now as this book has been absolutely fantastic so far. It's going to have to take a massive downturn before the end to change ny mind on this.

Son of a Witch and enjoying it as much as Wicked. Surprisingly, it's not just more of the same, but it's own story, which so far is told cleverly enough that it does not get boring despite not much really happening.

Hehe. Oh it only gets better. The last 100 pages are amazing.

I also immediately pre-ordered TOWER LORD when I read it as well.

Finished the Emperor's Blades. Fantastic read/listen. Haven't been as impressed by a debut since Blood Song.........so roughly six months. Still, very good stuff and if you enjoyed Blood Song, I'd definitely recommend Blades. Got only a couple hours left in Dirty Streets of Heaven. Will definitely be getting book 2. The narrator is tied with Nick Podehl as my favorite.

Finish the 3 1st. Why would you consider reading Alloy before hand as it takes place after those 3?

Well, the back of the books described it in a way that sounded like it could stand alone. And that was all I could find at the library in the short time I had available. I only own the first of the trilogy.

I've been listening to Heart of a Samurai while I work, not much opinion yet.

I've just started reading the first omnibus book in the Monarchies of God series by Paul Kearney. Never read any of his stuff before but I am aware that he's regarded well on these forums. I always feel nervous reading a new author that's so popular as I wonder if he's hyped up too much. However, I'm only 7 chapters in and I am absolutely loving it, really hoping the series stays as great as it has been so far ;)

Abnett's HIS LAST COMMAND is a really interesting structured Ghost's Book. With the fallout of the events on Gereon affecting nearly the entire narrative in amazingly interesting ways. Probably Abnett's most cerebral of the series so far.

Don't know what I'll read next.

QuickTidal, I would recommend carrying on with the books, while the later books aren't quite as good as the first two sequences, they're still great ;)
